Wouldn't a game only be classifiable as "Over" hyped if it's level of hype(?) is greater then the value of the game itself?

ie. if the game is hyped to a high degree, but it's awesome when released, wouldn't that imply it wasn't over-hyped at all, merely hyped to a degree reflective of how good it is?

I could be way off the mark here, but it makes sense to me.

Overhyping is nothing new for Metal Gear Games. Hell, in 1986, I'm sure they were talking about Metal Gear as being the best game for NES in 1986.

Nintendo sucks at hyping, yes, there's enormous hype for SSBB ... if you religiously follow the website online. Otherise.... Mario Kart Wii has been mentioned twice in 5 minute interviews. Wii Fit is about the same, but when it comes out, it will be hyped more than a hyper dog getting hyper food in hyper land. I'm not funny. But they will advertise it.

Killzone 2 absolutely is. The way they've been talking about this game, lying about this game, demonstrating this game and delaying this game, this game better do my damn taxes and prudently invest my funds while other people play it.

Fable 2 - Anything Molyneux works on is something he won't shut up about. Hyped to anyone who will listen.

Spore has been hyped by people who have never, ever, ever played it. Will be interesting to see at least, it was supposed to be out about... 2003? Overhyped by a crowd who have no idea what to expect. Hell, they made a god damn clay sculpture for Scott Ramsoomair before finishing the damn game.

Little Big Planet has absolutely no public hype, but seeing as that game is facing the PS3 curse right now, it's not too shocking. Aside from people who think it's going to be cool (Yay me!) say the phrase "little big planet" to anyone else and they will think you're mentally retarded. Underhyped, but needs word of mouth more than advertising.

I think killzone 2 is overhyped, and resistance 2(even though it has so much hype) is underhyped.
