Forums - Gaming - Am I the only one who DOESN'T want new consoles soon??!!!?!

I want next gen consoles soon; none of the current gen consoles feel interesting to me anymore, they've been around too long, their capabilities are familiar and unexciting.

It's not even really about graphics, (I'm still fine with Wii graphics as long as they are well done) it's more about current systems' design philosophies and interfaces feeling stale.

That said, the only system that's not pretty much maxed out power wise is the Wii, and it never will be. Yeah, we still have great looking games like The Last Of Us, but honestly it's not a big improvement over Uncharted 3. It's clear that the performance ceiling has been more or less reached and from here we will see only tiny enhancements as devs marginally optimize their code or compromise one aspect to make another look better.

I'm in the same boat. This gen is still fine for me. Also I wouldn't be able to afford a new console anyway, so its not like I would buy it even if it came out.

Also, ugh that video of Black Ops 2 looked sooooooooo fucking good. Want. Now.

Consoles are holding the PC back.

Super high-end PC exclusives do not have a high-enough userbase to sell to in order to be profitable. If consoles were more powerful, then more powerful games would be made cross-platform on both the consoles and the PC, giving us PC gamers higher-end games. The PC can handle these games, but the current generation of consoles cannot, so the games simply aren't being made yet.

Hence, consoles holding back the PC market.

Au contraire, my friend.

I see you've fallen in the same false sentiment of most PC gamer attitudes.

You see, You, like them, have forgotten that the majority of PCs are WALMART'ish grade computers.  These computers have to be programed and spec'd for from game developers as they are both needed & necessary to the ecology and economy of PC game development.

Guess what?  Those low end PC's and laptops are less capable game machines than the current HD consoles....certainly not more.

You forgot to factor that in....and I reminded you. So, You're welcome.

Low end PC's hold the industry back....not consoles.

just sayin.

Er... actually, I never said that the majority of PC gamers had PCs that were more powerful than consoles. But there are millions who have PCs that are just as powerful as consoles, and millions who have PCs that are more powerful than consoles. I clearly stated that there isn't a large enough userbase of very high-end PCs to warrant many PC-exclusive games that are super high-end. That's why I said consoles need to become more powerful in order to make these powerful games financially viable.

You're a weird little guy.

No,

The reason, if you want to get into it...

is that PC gamers, as a general, don't buy their games....

They steal them.

And then the few that do buy, they only want to buy when the games are discounted and old in Steam sales.

PC gamers hold PC gaming back.

Just sayin # 2.

i think maybe its us older generation of gamers that dont want the new gen just yet, were a little more patiant, also we have been gaming since game were on casset tapes with 20 minute load screens, so what we have no we are happy with

Nah not me. I've been gaming since I was typing in printed out listings in Basic on an MSX, tape loading what luxury.
I'm ready for next gen, tired of sequels, long loading screens, screen tearing, pop in, blurry textures, sub 720p effects. Yes the screenshots look better every year, the overall performance is not keeping up any longer.

As many have said, your current gen console doesn't stop working when the next gen is released. You might even be able to run current gen games a bit better on a next gen console. I've played more HD collections and arcarde titles then 'HD' games this year. Love the quick loading, clean graphics, and huge levels.

Fewer and fewer games are capturing my interest, sure there is enough older games to tie me over for a while but I really want newer consoles so I can see some new and amazing things.

Plus there is still at least 1-1.5 years left to enjoy the current generation

Would you rather the video game industry to continue its downward spiral?

I want only nextbox soon. For others, I really don't care.

Hmm, it is funny that everyone is talking about new hardware where it is actually the Software, that we are looking forward to. A new Generation would mean 2 years of "no risk Software" until the install base has grown significantly... It would be the third year of the next generation when the Software would really start to shine.

I somehow have the feeling that people are glorifying a new generation. The only console that I remember that had a really strong first year was the SNES... I mean Super Mario World and Zelda 3 were just awesome.

The more you are aching to have the next generation the more disappointed you will be when you see it next to your TV and you have the Software draught... Thats the Problem with the VITA. I could have bought one at launch easily... But there is only Uncharted and Katamari that I would have bought. So after a month I would have nothing to play and would have my new VITA just lying around. Maybe I will get it with the new Assassin's Creed. Or I will wait another year and get those 3 games at a discount price. As long as good software is not released continuously I could still wait... and if everyone is waiting for the Software flood Companies will hold back their releases until the install base has grown. Its a Dilemma and each new Generation brings it own risks

But back to My first point....

The best, or highest profile PC game this year was Diablo 3

So trying to assert that consoles somehow hold PC gaming back is ludicrous.....not unique ludicrous'ism on your part, as I've heard many others claim this nonsense, but it's still ludicrous nevertheless.

When you show me this whimsical PC exclusive game that is so awesome and can't be done on consoles, and most assuredly can't be run on the proverbial Walmart'ish PC (as Diablo 3 was clearly, and purposely, meant to be run on....just like all PC games) then you PM me.  Or better yet, make a whole new topic on it.  :)

Until then your sentiment remains as baseless as the other countless times it's been asserted.  All you have to do to confirm this, is read the back of the box for minimum specifications.....you'll see everything that needs to be seen or said.

bottom line:

PC developers make their PC exclusive games low end on purpose....for a purpose
