I get my multiplats on PC where they look and play good, if the big 3 pump out solid exclusives there's no need for new consoles.

i dont want the PS4 any time soon, but considering people think that the ps4 will launch next holiday ( me included) i think i might be excited about a ps4 in over a years time, i wont buy it right away (unless red dead redemption 2 is a launch tittle) but in a years time i would have had my ps3 for about 4 years and a half and ill wait till probably quarter 2 to buy the ps4 if the price is right so my ps3 would have served me 5 years. so ya im not ready now not at all but by the beggining of 2014 i probably will be

i just want sony and microsoft to atleast announce their next consoles and give us an idea of what to expect and i'd be happy if they released in 2014. 2013 will be a great year for 360/ps3 so we wont need a new console next year. personally i think the end of 2014 would be good for microsoft and sony but they risk giving the wii u too much of a head start, so it all depends on how the wii u does.

I've been ready for new consoles for a while really. In the last 12-18 months, Wii releases dried up altogether, and personally interesting PS3 releases have dried up as well.

I feel like there's nothing left to wow me on this round of consoles.

You are right, the consoles seem to be amost maxed out.

Dont expect the same kind of improvement on the current consoles in the next 6 years.

New consoles need to happen, and soon. Since money i no issue, I am looking forward to them.

It depends, really. Nintendo needed to get a new console out there so it was time for them. Microsoft / Sony on the other hand... well, late 2013 sounds like a good launch date to me. I don't agree about there being a lot of untapped potential. We are definitely at a point where PS3 / 360 are becoming too weak for some games. Look at Skyrim on PS3 or compare the PC versions of multi platform titles to the console versions.

Late 2013 should be an ideal date to launch PS4 / Xbox 8 (or 720 or whatever). We don't need to buy those consoles right at launch, christmas 2014 should be the right time to make the jump for a lot of consumers (both consoles should receive their first price cuts around that time and the first titles that are truly optimized for the stronger hardware usually arrive a year after launch).

Late 2013 should also be the time when the Wii U really starts to get a flow of must-have titles (Mario Kart is a given for 2013 and there'll be more) so the other two shouldn't wait much longer than that. Else we'll have a PS2 vs GC / Xbox situation.

Edit: I forgot to mention the best thing about console twilight years - cheap software! The PS3 essentials line will grow over the next months (it's off to a good start already) and here's hope Microsoft will give us a €/$20 line of games as well. 

Almost every notable IP of this generation has seen three games released this generation (some even more!), and new game ideas are becoming rarer and rarer. If you actually want to play something new, and not just retread the same games that came out in 2007 with a fresh coat of polish and a new scenario, new hardware is your best chance for that.

Agreed, times a million. Things need to heat up again and the Wii U is not the answer for non-Nintendo gamers.

I'm with you. I understand why they're doing it sales wise, but I honestly see no need games wise. Outside of maybe Wii-only owners, every gamer continues to see good games release every single month.

Edit: But even Wii-only owners have had Last Story and Xenoblade release over the past 3 or 4 months. Surely they can't be all that dissatisfied.
