Forums - Sales - Warhawk sold more than 400 000 units in EU alone!

@Bod: I agree with your points that those numbers may be to high but Warhawk should be at least close to 1 million. Ioi is putting Warhawk below 400k and if we belive his numbers* than all multiple accounts coming from one bought Warhawk come from those 400k units sold. If there was on average 1.5 accounts for one Blu-Ray copy of Warhawk sold, still there would be 450k downloads (400k "orginal" accounts from Blu-ray copies, 200k from "not-orginal" accounts from Blu-ray, and 450k downloads so it would sum up to 1.05 mln).
And there is also Japan, I know it's not a big hit there but I think than 50k is a possibility.

*As Blu-ray units sold. It is also obvious that European numbers aren't up to date but the difference shouldn't be very big.

Until we know the dev cost of each game I don't think it's reasonable to say that the sells are fine or not. Couple of weeks before I though that Lost Planet made a lot of profit seeing how well it sold (1.5m +) before I saw an article that said that it Capcom have lost a lot of money on it because the game cost like 40m to develop and marketed. It's seam logic to assume that Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and R&C dev cost is around the same as Lost Planet so selling 1m copies wont be enough for those title at all.

Well I believe Sony expected of GT5 Prologue, 1 download copy for every 2 retail copys sold in japan. That's where i'd start the estimation. Probably round down a bit for American and Europe considering that high internet speeds are much more common in Japan.

Different game but it's all you really have to go on.

Nothing i'd try and esitmate sales on though.

I'm not gonna comment on the numbers as I have absolutely no idea, but you are definitely wrong about rounding down numbers when comparing downloads between US/EU and Japan. It has absolutely nothing to do with connection speeds, in Japan most people just won't buy things online. Rates of credit card usage are much lower in Japan than in other developed nations, and that is why sony released PSN cards to try and overcome the aversion the Japanese have about paying for things online. I don't really know why, it's just a cultural thing.

So many here are blinded by their fanboyism.

You all got it wrong.

The figure of 417K means every sold Warhawk on the planet, be it retail or download. You see, the people who bought the hard copy are also registered when they go online and play.

So bottom line is that the game sold didn't sell very well.

@Slim: Would be great if you could also explain what 637k figure means.

Bottom line nobody really knows anything just that it sold a minimum of 400 000 copies.

@slimebeast

BS. No way a game like Lost Planet cost $40 mill. You must have read it from a bad source. There's nothing special about Lost Planet that could cost a lot of money (no advanced graphics engine, no voice acting, no movies, no advanced physics etc). Capcom aren't idiots who would invest such a huge sum on a new IP. And $40 mill would require minimum sales of 2-2.5 mill units to break even.

Very few games cost $40 mill (like Oblivion with 4 mill sold on all platforms, or Zelda, GTA4 etc). Even $20 mill is considered a big and risky budget for new IP, and that figure has been mentioned several times for games like Heavenly Sword and Lair, which also lost a lot of money.

Guys bod is not a troll unlike neos, so you can actually try and have a conversation with him.

On to the subject, these are the facts we know:

1) DL #s are not tracked on vgchartz (yet)
2) Only about 80 games have accurate WW numbers according to ioi

In Warhawk's case when you add all 3 territories and add up to date DL + retail sales, then I believe the game should be close to 1 million. How do you see # of users registered BTW?

Ok, 637K then is the sum of DL and retail. Pretty good WW sales for Warhawk in my opinion (since it didn't get much market support).
