Forums - Nintendo - When will Nintendo announce they will boost production of Wii, if ever?

On average, a console will need to produce over 130% of their monthy hardware sales from January through October in order to meet demand over November and December. This means that Nintendo will (likely) increase production after March 31st 2008, probably to 2.2 or 2.5 Million units per month.

That's probably too low unless they have really bad expectations for China and South Korea.

they better
Nintendo is waay to conservative and it is costing them
I say they should've been producing 2.5 mil per month starting last summer.
Min- Ninty needs 2.5-3 mil per month this year; if not, that's just money down the drain

I agree.

HappySqurriel, once in a while you should throw your common sense out of the window and do some John Lucas style posts.

Well if  Leo-j is a reliable source as he claims to be, Nintendo should probably just cut production since the PS3 should start dominating the market soon, and the Wii will just be sitting on shelves.

2.2 in march, and then 2.5 in late summer, early fall for the winter would be my guess

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I don't think they will raise their production until june, even if they do increase it at all.

The Wii wouldnt be considered a hot console if it was sitting on shelves now would it? Nintendo loves the publicity they are getting for being "sold out" each week.

And if everyone that wanted a Wii had a Wii (which will happen by the end of 2008) then Nintendo gets dissed on for not selling their product.

I'm thinking about the same.  45 mil sold by end of 08...

Don't forget that it takes Nintendo 5 months to increase their Wii production once they decide to do so.  So it doesn't make sense they'd make a contract to go to 2.2 million units in March (setting up that contract back in November) and then to 2.5 million units in late summer.  It would make more sense for them to wait until February or March and then get into a contract to increase substantially or not at all.

If Nintendo manufactured their own consoles, I could see them tweaking smaller amounts.  But they need to take up a significant amount of capacity if they want increased production.

I don't think they'll ramp up until august or september, to be prepared for the holidays this time.
