I kind of agree with someone here that this gen has been over shadowed by FPS but maybe it will be different next gen. Maybe instead of CoD every year and selling 25 million copies maybe it will be a Tales of game or Final Fantasy or some other JRPG. Nah I'm just kidding FPS dominance is here to stay (at least for a while)

FPS dominates for one simple reason. Easily available online multiplayer. I wouldnt be surprised at all though to see MMOs become huge on next gen consoles, after all its rumored Lionhead is working on an MMO for the Nextbox right now

But it's lots of fun to play with good progression, firefights can get real intense in co-op especially on the seccond playthrough. you could ignore all the other stuff after a while, and it's style isn't what made this franchise so successful (tho it helped).
OT: with 124,678 simultanious players I would say the PC version is proabably nearing a million copies as well.

360 is stronger when it comes to multiplat shooter sales. Be specific.

Also, shooters are huge in America. Culturally its a win win if you can come up with a cool concept around the shooter genre in North America. If the multiplayer is great as well, we have a winner.

Doubt it, a lot of North American companies are playing it safe with TPS and FPS. People are buying it and even the Japanese are taking notice of this style of developing games.

I mean, nothing dominates forever. 2D Platformers were few and far between a few years ago but thanks to Mario, Rayman and Indie Games it's now a force to be reckoned with. |
FPS has always dominated on PC (outside of RTS and MMOs). It's only growing in popularity on consoles. When a COD can almost or over 20 M all over the world ever year, this is a sign of a trend that will stretch into the future (Hopefully Activision realizes doing the same thing every year will eventually burn out in popularity). Shooters popularity is overshadowing PC by far with its profits. American has contributed to the bulk of the sales and if you have America backing you, you have a winner.

I'll give it a rent, but I played one and it was a huge letdown. From the reviews I've seen, the problems I had with it weren't fixed.

I don't think the Borderlands audience is the same audience as Halo 4 and Black Ops 2. Like for instance, I can't stand most FPS games, but I absolutely adore Borderlands.
