I mean, nothing dominates forever. 2D Platformers were few and far between a few years ago but thanks to Mario, Rayman and Indie Games it's now a force to be reckoned with. 


FPS has always dominated on PC (outside of RTS and MMOs). It's only growing in popularity on consoles. When a COD can almost or over 20 M all over the world ever year, this is a sign of a trend that will stretch into the future (Hopefully Activision realizes doing the same thing every year will eventually burn out in popularity). Shooters popularity is overshadowing PC by far with its profits.  American has contributed to the bulk of the sales and if you have America backing you, you have a winner.
