I would definitely disagree that the wii-mote and nunchuck worked for fps.  I would also say that fps review scores tend to agree with me as well.  I never played pro evo so I can't voice an opinion there.  

I loved it in Metroid Prime and I'm shocked most of the community ignored the potential in the tech.

I personally don't prefer it than, I like the option. It has its benefits, and Dual Analog has its benefits, but I wish the Wiimote setup was just not bashed so easily like this industry has a habit of doing with things Nintendo.

Now, the gamepad, I'm looking forward to what Nintendo first party will implement, hopefully something more than the obvious Map/inventory/etc.

in fact on of my complaints about the U is that theres not gonna be anough wiimote support for FPS

Couldnt agree more with you. Pro Evo was awesome with Wiimote and Nunchuks. FPS I can only play with the Wiimote now.
