Verse every announced game on Wii U. Ya it's pretty obvious the Wii U will be supported much better than Vita/PS3, even if both have similar functionality. Since Sony is claiming themselves to be in the perfect position (with their slim PS3) to snatch up any consumer who doesn't opt for a Wii U at launch, then yes the discussion is about purchasing a PS3 and Vita compared to a Wii U, and not just Vita by itself.

sony themselves stated that they believe that the vast majority of vita buyers also own a ps3

Apples to oranges. Sony is talking about the casual market on PS3, nothing to do with Vita.
Anyway I found a great little article straight from the playstation website explaining PS3 and Vita interacting together. Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

What strange world of numbers do you live in? 300 is less than 500, not greater... ;)
