Console that will sell most: Nintendo Wii U

Who will sell more consoles between Microsoft/SONY: SONY

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

A large portion of the reason Sony was so successful with the Playstation and PS2 was that they released before (most of) their competition and secured third party support before their competition released their systems. With Sony releasing their system 12 to 24 months after the Wii U launches, and potentially having damaged relationships with third party publishers due to the PS-Vita, there is a risk that the PS4 won't have a chance to be (particularly) successful.

On top of that, with the PS-Vita Sony seems to have continued with the PSP strategy (more or less) because the PSP turned out to be pretty successful in the end; but they didn't consider that the conditions that helped the PSP weren't in place for the PS-Vita anymore. The PSP launched (more or less) at the same time as the DS and third party publishers didn't have faith in the DS, the DS launched (relatively) early in the GBA's life, and Sony was the unquestioned market leader. The PS3 turning out fairly well in the end may make Sony far more likely to replicate the mistakes they made with the PS3, and we could see a very powerful system being sold for $500+, releasing 2 years after the Wii U, with less third party support.

I think it's safe to assume the third-parties are going to automatically support the PS4 and 720. So I'm not sure what you mean by the bolded.

Also, what specifically were Sony's mistakes with the PSP?

It isn't whether the PS4 or XBox 720 will get third party support, it is the amount of exclusive third party support they will be able to secure that can cause the problems ...

Essentially, consider what would have happened if the Wii launched in 2004 and didn't face any negative consequences from launching so soon after the Gamecube. At the end of 2006, a year after the XBox 360 launched and soon after the PS3 launched, the Wii would be sitting at over 40 million units sold, the XBox 360 would have sold 8 million units, and the PS3 would have sold 2 million; to what extent do you think this would have impacted third party support from then on?

With that said, the mistakes of the PSP were that Sony focused to heavily on making a portable PS2 rather than a superior handheld and this resulted in a system that was too expensive and wasn't strong in traditional handheld games.

Sony pictures also made money. spider man this year, and the superman reboot next year will show some profit.

Superman, like all DC characters, are property of Warner Bros. I don't think they have anything in commom with Sony Pictures.

Maybe Robocop will do them money next year

I don't know why I typed superman, your guess is as good as mine. what I meant to type was; "Spider-Man" reboot in the third quarter benefits from this year and it should next year around the world, same for Men in Black 3, including their television production like wheel of fortune. etc - all part of sony pictures. - edit even if the profit not that fantastic, it is a plus lol

Sony Pictures lost 4.9 billion Yen ($63 million) for Q1 2012 on revenue of $1.9 billion.

That included MIB 3 in that quarter which has the same budget and grossed the same amout globally as The Amazing Spider-Man just did.   Q1 also had 21 Jump Street which had a budget of $42 million and grossed over $200 million.   But Sony had a big flop this last quarter: Total Recal whcih grossed just $58 million on a $125 million budget.

If Sony lossed money during the quarter that had both MIB 3 and 21 Jump Street, I don't see how Sony could do better in Q2 with Spider-Man (same budget and gross as MIB3 ) and a big flop (Total Recall).

Total sales only tells so much.  When you sale your console at a loss you lose money and then rely on software.  Sony lost billions on the PS3.  Xbox lost a lot as well on the RROD, they have more income though due to XBL but all in all systems sold is pointless beyond a console war

Not talking about profit. Talking about relevance. If they're fightint to stay relevent, I'd say they're doing a decent job at it.

Can I ask where these stories about burning through all their ps2 profits came from? I do remember reading an article last year saying after the price drop here in europe they were making losses on the system again. If what people are saying is true that doesn't sound successful to me. Sales figures might be high but if they really are losing all this money then it sounds more like its a failure.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

Sonys sales in third should be considered graceful. They are selling more in third than the Xbox and Gamecube sold combined last gen against the PS2.
