Forums - General - Comet 15x brighter than moon coming soon

Since Comet Ison is supposed to be around the corner, I thought this thread needed a bump.

Huh... I wonder if there will be another heavens gate mass suicide.

Eating some poisoned applesauce and lay under a purple blanket. You know the purple blanket stained the bodies of the members and the only way they could get it off is by using Comet.

Thanks for the bump: I needed the reminder that soon we're all going to die.

Well im going to bump this up again. I wish i could throw an update in the title.

in about 13 and a half hours, Comet C/2012 S1 will reach its perihelion. (closest it will get to the sun)

If it survives this trip around, We will be treated to an amazing site as we see it venture back to the far reaches of our solar system.

"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

During its perihelion it is probably not best to look at it, unless you are comfortable with staring almost directly at the sun. although there might be a way to see it. It will be daytime for myself aswell, but i will be following news of it closely and crossing my fingers it survives. It has been somewhat viewable in the last few days if you know where to look, your out at the right time and have clear skies, but the best viewing would be if it survives and on its way out. I believe earth's closest approach to the comet is around boxing day, but as itll be moving away from the sun itll be dimming so might be bright before then. Comets are mysteries as its very hard to tell the composition, so without knowing its hard to predict what will happen, and how bright it may get.

I want it to survive its trip around the Sun so I can see it, but I doubt it'll survive. Its 3 miles wide, and swinging around the Sun just about 730,000 miles away from the surface. In comparison, Mercury is 35 million miles away from the Sun.

Huh, even I had forgotten about this. Thanks for the bump, updated the title.

Edit: wait, 11h for it to be closest to the sun. When should it be visible?

Between the 4th and the 14th of dec, according to german newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. But only if i survives it's ride along the sun, which is still pretty uncertain.
