True, but most Balance Boards were sold with the first Wii Fit, and given that there were few more games that were compatible with it, it made little sense to release one.
OT. Yes, I believe that some will launch them, and I wouldn't be surprised if some 3rd party launches a version with extra features to use it as a standalone device, like using it as an e-book.

And those were pretty much undistructable. Never heard of a broken Wii Balance Board.

Why restrict features to add soft touch? Resistive technology has improved a lot, and has additional pressure sensitivity. Things like Art Academy need a resistive screen, and you're forgetting the stylus for precision required games (Picross-U-3D ^^!!!)

They're still digital. It wouldn't be an issue to convert the bits into a form the Wii U will take. Wouldn't take a special chip, just some routing on the controller logic. You wouldn't get increased resolution but changing sensitivity is possible.
Probably once Nintendo has full tested out how to multiple GamePads will work how to allow for decent running with multiple ones.
it took quite a while for 3rd party Wiimotes to show, but I'm certain eventually they will.
