No, these were not global launches....just the American launches.

However, it should be noted and understood that Neither, Sony, Nintendo, and obviously not Microsoft.....none of them launch in Japan first anymore....rather, they now launch close....such as with the PS3 having November 2006 in Japan and America.

did you notice the Wii U is launching first in America (NOV) and Japan in December?

This is because America is the #1 buyer of Home game consoles and must be catered to with priority.

Those year staggerings that we used to have like with the Dreamcast and PS2.....those days are pretty long gone now.

So yes....you're right.....it is business......it just may not be the business you were hoping for, possibly.

Because at this point, it's not practical or likely.

TGS is over and 2012 is done....Bring on 2013....basically.

dude come on now....sony just launched vita first in Japan and NA/EU followed a few months later. There are many factors that go into making this choice. Historical data means jack basically. Currently Sony's biggest market is not the NA...it definitely is not it's most important market. If they are gonna launch it based on just that factor alone we will see a EU launch first..

again...they will most likely launch in one region..I think it will be Jp..it definitely could be another region as well.

Btw I want some clarification..what is this hope and dream business? I don't recall a single person even remotely hinting at the possibility of sony revealing ps4 this year....many are not sure if it will come next year either. I don't see people having high hopes about it because the ps3 line up is stellar in 2013. Fans are well served and they can wait. Most comments have been about wanting to see what the ps4 is capable of hence the hype around E3 next year and so on./

Just because something is not likely does not mean it's a remote possibility. In the case of the PS4 releasing in 2013, it may not seem likely at this point, but it would be surprising if Sony announced the PS4 sometime after this Christmas, for a 2013 release.

I'm aware VITA launches in Japan first....as well as Gameboys (I still call them that).

But we aren't talking handhelds here.....Home Consoles.

And with that, Japan doesn't really like Home Consoles anymore....not like they used to anyways.  America is where the home consoles are sold now.....that where priority is now.

Very likely... PS3 was announced on May 2005 and released on November 2006. PS2 was the same.
PS4 most likely will follow suit. May-June 2013 (e3) announcement, release on the holidays of 2014.

That's my guess, at least.

So, if Sony announced the PS4, in Dec/Jan for a 2013 release, it would not be surprising.

The way I see it, there's a 40% chance it'll release in 2013. I still consider it a reasonable possibility, not a remote possibility. 

Imo, one thing's for sure... it'll launch on a holiday. I can even see a holiday 2013 release (in %, I give it 30%), but not on any other month before october in 2014.
