This. GTA5 will kill the Wii U.

Major Home Consoles.
And XBOX 360 (XBOX 2) was acknowledged by Microsoft as early as 2013. Here you go:
ATI wins bid for next Xbox (August 14, 2003 6:30 AM PDT)
""We selected ATI after reviewing the top graphics technologies in development and determining that ATI's technical vision fits perfectly with the future direction of Xbox," Robbie Bach, senior vice president of Microsoft's home and entertainment division, said in a statement""

Major Home Consoles always get acknowledged at least 1 year from their respective launches.....usually it's 18 months or longer. They never spring or Sprout of from out of nowhere. PS4 will be no different.
Just sayin.

So far, it won't.
If Sony waits until 2014, PS4 will dead on arrival. Giving Nintendo 2 years and MS 1 year is a recipe for disaster.

It's still very possible that it's releasing next year. Sony is going to want the PS3 to sell as much as possible this holiday. It wouldn't surprise me if they were releasing the PS4 in 2013, but were just waiting until after Christmas. They could announce it until New Years or something.
Personally, I don't think it would be smart for Sony to give the 720 a year head start. If the 720 releases before the PS4, and gets the first next-gen-designed CoD, then it's possible that a large chunk of PS3 CoD players would flock to the 720. The same goes for other annual releases. I don't think Sony should take that risk.

Every console has been confirmed nearly a year before it's launch. 3DS was confirmed in March of 2010 and released in March of 2011. Xbox 360, while not officially revealed until May 2005, it had been publically revealed as early as August 2004:

There is not one word of confirmation about the PS4 coming any time soon. This is different.
If we don't get some sort of announcement regarding the system by Januar 2013, it's not coming.

Let's stick to major home consoles though.
