It will probably be a driver issue. If you're using Windows, I'm surprised you haven't had problems like this before. Depending on what you use your PC for, driver conflicts are fairly common.

I have the Nintendo Wi-fi USB connector all the time plugged and not problem at all. try downloading the latest version from Nintendo and see if that solves the issue.
