Forums - Sony - "New" PS3 Pricing Explanation

All of a sudden the Wii U at $299 is looking like an even better deal. Thanks Sony!

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

looks pretty much not my thing

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.

Xbox One: What are you doing Dave?

You have to keep in mind that is a Suggested Retail Price, and stores may charge the same they are right now for the actual model.

Again I would have to repeat the MSRP is usually what the stores get the systems for, since the market is a "razor blade market model", the systems are sold to the retailers usally $1-to-$5 cheaper than the MSRP so the store can make something on them. I know this because I tried my hand at a game store years ago with the launch of the Gamecube and Xbox, I still have my site that is currently repurposed until I can find a use for it. So unless they want to sell the unit at a loss it will be at the MSRP.

I don't get the 12 gb anyway. Its not like 360 where you can play all games still. PS3 has mandatory installs. So you need and have to buy a HDD.

Wow. Shocked at Sony. This is terrible.

That's what I was thinking. Really sucks for people who buy the 12GB version and don't know any better.

Yes. I can see the conversation in stores now.

customer "I want the cheapest one the 12 gb model. I dont download anyway. "

store clerk " Well you will need to spend another 99GBP for HDD to play some games, as they have mandatory installs "

customer " So that takes the price to 329GBP "

Store clerk " Uh yes "

customer " So whats the point of te 12 gb "

store clerk " Uh at least its not 599GBP like at launch "

customer " what? "

store clerk " nothing "

customer " hey whats that? "

store clerk " what "

customer " That there "

store clerk " Oh Wii U "

customer " Is it new "

store clerk " Yes and more powerful than Ps3 "

customer " How much is that? "

store clerk " Uh 299GBP "

customer " Uh "

store clerk " yeah 299GBP and Bayonetta 2 is exclusive "

customer " I'll take that then "

This....just feels like a really stupid move on sonys part. I sincerely feel as if they have made a console in the ~150-175$ range, it'd make a much larger, much more dominating impact on the influence of sony winning the fall/winter top seller competition.

All of this, of course, is just my opinion.

Skyrim 100%'d. Dark Souls 100%'d.
Dark Souls > Skyrim.
Halo 4 is the best damn FPS since Halo 3.
Proud pre-orderer of 2 PS4's and an Xbox One.

Currently Playing: Dark Souls II, South Park
Playstation 4: MGS V GZ, Killzone: Shadow Fall, NBA 2k14.

Can you explain why there is a 12gb? And who the hell at Sony okayed this?

You cant play all the games, you need a HDD for mandatory installs.

You guys don't seem to be familiar with the 4GB xbox 360.

why all this hate for the 12gb and price?

you can play all games on 12gb, install play the game when done with it or have another game that requires install just delete the game data

also the HDD on ps3s are also the same as laptops you can get a decent size one over 320gb for $50-$100

price is fine aswell as its not a increased as many are saying you also have to remember that this is a new sku that is much smaller, that in itself has an appeal to consumers or others looking to buy a 2nd ps3

Does anyone have a list of games that require extreme amounts of hard drive space?

grand theft auto. ~6 GB

Gran Turismo has an optional huge install (~8 GB).

MLB 12: the show: has a mandantory 5 GB or optional full 10 GB

Crysis 2 ~4 GB

i think Rage has like 10 or 15 GB

most of the games i have bought so for for my ps3 have no install or one that is just a few MB.
