Well, back on topic I think this announcement is nice for the Vita in Japan, but it's not going to help the already struggling handheld in the west. With Monster Hunter basically a multiplatform franchise now, Sony really needs some huge exclusives (coupled with a price drop) to give the Vita a much needed shot in the arm in western markets.

Yes, the Vita needs a price drop like a junkie needs a fix.

This game could help sales in Japan though.

The first one was not. We did receive God Eater Burst, which is a lot like Monster Hunter 3 -> Monster Hunter 3G.

MIldly successful? Add the sales of the two games (which are one) and it's the best selling PSP game outside monster hunter.
