Forums - PC - Advice on my budget pc build.

Hey guys,

okay with roughly a 600 gbp budget I have decided to go with a pc. Read an article on eurogamer which was encouraging.

Mainly it will be used for gaming also downloading music boxing etc. I have a tv I can use until I have enough to pick up a smart monitor.

Using www.scan.co.uk

LN code finds items.

LN- 29161   MS Windows 7  77gbp

LN- 36727   i5 2500 processor  161gbp

LN- 44305   ASUS motherboard 70gbp

LN- 37964   8 GIG RAM 1333  47gbp

LN- 42589   650w power supply  67gbp

LN- 45119   dvd-r  15gbp

LN- 43377  CASE  30gbp

LN- 31476   HDD 500GB  54gbp

LN- 27654   hdmi mini- normal lead 4gbp

Total 525 gbp

Still need a compatible gpu but I will just be getting a cheap one (recommendations) until january ish.

So is this all compatible as I'm a bit of a numpty in this area.

Thanks

LN 45540 i5 3570 CPU (Ivy instead of Sandy)

32-bit Windows is £10 cheaper if you want.

Otherwise looks OK.

GPU I'll look in a minute.

How about LN46908 EVGA GTX 660 Superclocked ?

I don't expect the pricing situation to improve between now and January, but if there's some other reason why you're waiting then Ivy's built-in GPU will handle most games on Low.

with your setup you don't need a 650W PSU - get sth cheaper

Is the 32-bit Windows 7 not memory limiting?

With PAE you can still use 8GB of RAM, with 4GB for each process. So kind of.

Thanks guys. Hoping to have it all in a week or two.

Really put off by consoles this gen. Paying for multiplayer, 50 pound digital games, day one dlc and season passes have ushered me towards a pc.

I will pick up a ps4 when they are the stage ps3 and 360 are now 200 pound with plenty of games.

Got one pal. Phoidino.

Bought a game too to ensure my pc purchase ;)

my PC has 500 watt power supply, which should be enough for your PC too

you should get a nvidia 650 or HD radeon 7770 (they are around £100 mark)

Xbox Series, PS5 and Switch (+ Many Retro Consoles)

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

What games are you planning on playing? Do you really care about framerate and graphics quality?

Your computer is good so far, can't really think of anything wrong with it. For a graphics card you may as well go with a GTX 650 or HD 7750. They deliver great performance for gaming at around £90 before prices start getting ridiculous. If you are more of an enthusiast and want to play Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 at 60fps and 1080p as well as all the other games that are coming out next gen then get a GTX 660 or HD 7870 at around £180.

Also, if you want to upgrade to Ivy Bridge I'll recommend you a great CPU and mobo combo (possibly the same as mine) and I recommend getting a larger HDD and an SSD as a boot drive too. Apparently cheap CiT cases aren't too great either, I recommend getting a Casecom KM - 6788 (the same as mine) or a NZXT case if you want to go high end.

This Mobo - LN46716

plus this CPU - LN42836

It's a better combo, more performance, and uses less power and works out cheaper.

Stick with 64-Bit Win 7, there is no reason to be using a 32-Bit OS in this day and age when true 64-Bit games are on the way.

As for the GPU are you planning on upgrading soon or what? What kind of performance are you looking for in the mean time? Because intergrated GPU will let you use the GPU fine in the meantime as long as you are not planning on doing a lot of gaming in that time.
