Forums - Politics - Anti-Japan protests in China spread.

I know this is a serious discussion, but for some reason my scumbag brain pictured China's large army against android maids weilding machine guns, and huge tentacle monsters.

So Japan is in a dispute with two countries over Islands. One being Korea and the other being China, now.

Japan really must like their islands!

For the record, Taiwan also claims the Senkaku/Diaoyu/Tiaoyutai/Pinnacle Islands.  (All four names are in use, but I personally refer to them as "A Bunch Of Uninhabited Rocks.")

On the other hand, China is laying claim to all sorts of islands currently under control of Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, and maybe one or two other countries.  Go China Go!  Your neighbours love you!

Not many "people" liked China before they even started claiming islands like it was nobody's business.

On the western front they have border disputes with India. Strong ties with militant groups in Pakistan and Kashmir valley. Argh.

A) So... you do?  I don't get what your saying here.

B) As your post below shows, even as a percentage of budget.  What the US spends isn't "10 times higher" then the next guy.

It's fine.  Espiecally considering that NATO is really just "The USA protects most of your shit so you don't have to spend money on defense for old outdated political reasons and so the US always has baked in allies whenever it wants to attack someone."

This isn't really so much about what you said as it is about your grammar.  It's not a huge deal, but it does kind of bother me a little bit.

The "then" should be "than" because "than" is used for comparison, while "then" is time related.  I don't have a comment on the subject because I don't know enough about all this stuff to have any valuable input.

I have a mild case of dysgraphia that bleeds over into my typing.  Sue me.

Why not fine some dyslexic people to bug as well if you want focus on pointless grammar mistakes where the intent is clear.

ive never heard of this before...thank you for mentioning it.

Bwahahahah you got me with that one! =D

That's all I wanted to say.

The Japanese gov is trying to buy the Islands from some rich Japanese family that owns them, correct? I don't see why China would be so vehement.

Why do citizens care about what the borders are between nations?

A) The original post.  Which you were agreeing with.

B) Absolute numbers don't matter.  Not when talking about proper budgeting.  Having more money means you have more threats... more to protect and more intersets to protect.

A) Here's quote in question: "China and Russia are both worried about America's ambitions and they have every right to be" - you just annoyingly disagree in order to disagree.

B) You're basically agreeing with another quote: "No country is really pursuing imperialistic ambitions anymore except America" - cann't agree more, more money to have - more money to protect :D Cut the ambitions, end ongoign wars - here's half of your military budget.

You have to consider that the United States political system works very differently to most other countries. Yes, defense as percentage of Federal budget is high... but it's one of the few areas that the Federal Government is supposed to focus on. When you include state Governments, which do most of the things that most central Governments do, the numbers are different. Also, local, etc.

On a side note.

Wasn't that you who was trying to persuade me that China is a threat to US interests in the Pacific (I'm rewording, the initial quote was smth about a threat to Hawaii, almost like Pearl Harbor 2, no?). Didn't I tell you then that if smth will happen it won't go out farther than South China Sea?

Limits of China's Submarine Operations as per Stratfor

On top of that they do not have a single aircraft carrier operational. All that makes China strategically in defence, not offence.

Well, just using an opportunity for "told you so" remark :D

It may have been. I used to be a bit of a child neocon when it came to these things. I don't care for US military strength, or Chinese, and think the people in control are murderous psychopaths who would love to spend trillions of dollars murdering civillians, if it meant an increase in their power.

Fuck the state.
