Although Nintendo will sell Wii U Gamepads separately in Japanese retailers, Nintendo of America’s director of PR, Marc Franklin, revealed that Nintendo will not be selling Wii U GamePads as standalone products in North America. Franklin claims that if Nintendo were to sell separate Wii U GamePads, it would confuse consumers as there are no announced games that support two of them.

The only apparent way to obtain a second Wii U GamePad is to purchase one directly from Nintendo of America.

Update: Wii U GamePad Replacements Will Be Issued For A Fee

A Nintendo of America customer service representative has confirmed that Wii U GamePad replacements will be available for a fee. Nintendo of America has already said that Wii U GamePad’s will not be available for purchase separately. This isn’t such a big deal as there are no games which currently support the use of two GamePad’s.

So if they want a replacement? lol

Apparently if the controller breaks the only way to get a replacement atm is to get it directly from Nintendo of America

If they were stupid enough to destroy it on purpose though they can always buy it from NoA, as stated in the OP.

But if you dont live in USA nor Japan? what are you gonna do?? People in South America for example wont be calling Nintendo of America (USA) for a replacement ¬_¬.

Well, not until a game or other content actually uses dual gamepads. Makes sense really, why waste the shelf space for a likely $150 accessory that isn't even needed yet?

During the first year its warrantied so it breaks, its replaced free. By the time 2nd year comes around there will be content and thus they will be in stores.

Nintendo of America =/= Nintendo of United States?

And half the confused people buying them would be Wii owners. It's a good PR move more than anything else.
