Forums - Sales - Official PR Spin for December

My analysis: Microsoft takes stabs at Sony and Nintendo, while Nintendo and Sony do not.

Might have something to do with culture: Honor is a hot thing in Japan (Asia), while, judging from US politics, badmouthing the competition is the cool thing to do in the US.

It probably is a cultural difference but it probably has to do mainly what posistion MS is in.  They know they are no longer top dog, and this could hurt their 3rd party support.  They are trying to tell buyers and 3rd parties that hey we are huge in America and you can do good on 360 alone here while on the others you won't.  There attacking of the PS3 and Wii I see is more out of desperation as from all I see in this NPD part is their world falling around them.  I mean all these big games released, and hardware wise they can't even tackle the Wii which was in limite supplies.  And knowing their sales everywhere else, this is scaring MS and they know they have to put down the comp to stay alive.  I've seen a lot of their latest PR reports like this to be nothing but works of desperation to keep the interest up.

I doubt those cultural differences are the reason.  NPD results are only for the US so it was Nintendo of America and Sony's American branch that would put out PR statements regarding NPD.

lol @ Sony but I bet MS wouldn't say all that in jp or even eu

Yeah, SCEA and NoA are separate entities from their Japanese counterparts. The people writing these PR statements are all from North America in all probability.

Nintendo isn't trash talking I guess because they don't want to come off as too arrogant since with the DS they pretty much clean up every month.

As for Sony they should start using the SDF "Sony family" routine. That kind of misleading smoke and mirrors is perfect for corporate spin! The Nintendo family probably still beat them but they can claim they took down Microsoft!

well thats why there saying it here

tag:"reviews only matter for the real hardcore gamer"

MS is that guy who talks to much no matter what the situation and it really surprised be that both Nintendo and Sony, especially remain as cool as the other side of the pillow.

Haha. You know what I like? MS says they sold nearly 1.3 million units. They rounded it to the 100k digit by rounding up 40,000 units. Not unusual in and of itself.

But the PS3 total? It's quoted as 798k. Not "around 800k" or just "800k," but 798k. They couldn't round those extra 2,000 units huh?
