I really wish people would stop calling it "supply constraints". I mean, everyone understands that Nintendo does this on purpose right? They have had "supply constraints" for 20 years. They do it to stimulate demand.

Please stop acting like Nintendo is so incompetent that they couldn't open a few more factories when the Wii took off. They could have more than enough Wiis on the shelves for everyone if they wanted to.

i dont think they would do that

Well, they are smarter than you.

well duh im just a 16 year old

Nintendo also suffers from bottlenecks. Reggie talked about how they don't make all the parts for the wii, IBM, and various other companies make the parts for the wiis. If any one of those parts is supply constrained everything is. He wouldn't mention what company or companies are holding up production for their sake, but it's not like they just have a ton of parts sitting there waiting for a factory to make wii's. They aren't harvesting minerals and vespene gas, and just lack the factories to pump out wiis. It's a far more complex problem than just "whi dont they jst throw up some moar wii factries?!?!"

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

Well if it isn't then I'm about to have 50 very happy friends haha.

Yes, its hard to believe that they are having trouble keeping up with demand on the fastest selling console in gaming history.  Something that noone could have predicted before they launched.  That couldn't be the problem, it must be something else.  hmmm...

One thing is for sure, Nintendo is smarter than you.

You act like increasing production requires them to send 50 Japanese laborers out with bricks and mortar to build a new factory.

They could easily outsource production.

It may not be as easy as pressing a button, but it definitely isn't difficult enough to be reason for underselling.

did you not read my post? They don't make the components for the wiis. Other companies that make many parts make wii parts, that are assembled in factories. Building factories doesn't do anything if IBM isn't dedicating enough resources to making the processors, or whatever company isn't spitting out accelerometers, or what have you. Nintendo doesn't just make every wii from scratch themselves.

Yes.
Don't forget that Nintendo has to make DS Lite's also, the Wii Board and softwares....

They are up to 1.8 million Wiis a month which works out to 21.6 million Wiis. Assuming they don't decrease production, which seems quite unlikely, that means they will produce and more than likely sell basically as many Wiis this year as GC sold LTD, their previous home console. That is insane growth and yet you don't understand why they don't explode production even further?

It's basic supply and demand.  If supply shoots up and demand drops off in a month or so then they will either have to channel stuff or just store excess stock; either way they lose money as I pointed out above.
