The last TV I bought (a couple years ago) was right before all the 3DTV's came out (After the LED-LCD ones came out though) and I would not have bought one then, but having one of my computer monitors as a 3D Monitor has convinced me of the value of 3D Entertainment (not that my 3DS didn't). So the next TV I purchase will infact be a 3D ready set, at the moment I am leaning towards active shutter glasses as they seem to be the best for picture and brightness.

Hmm.. with the shutter technique you have real 1080p per eye so it certainly has better picture quality at the moment, but I'm not sure about brightness.. I have an active 3D monitor aswell and it's actually a little too dark in 3D mode, so I really prefer to play content with bright colors.

I strongly prefer the 'Passive' form of 3D TVs.  I am aware that it halves the resolution - which is why I would like a 2K 3D TV - so you could get each eye in 1080P, but the additional picture quality from processing is so much better.  You get free of the 2:3 pull down, judder free, 24p and the additional 'smoothing' from the extra frames of 120+ Hz.

Plus the glasses are lighter and don't need batteries. Till we have glasses free, it seems to me the best option.

I find the 60 frames per eye, just way to slow.  In the same way a DLP project system in a Cinema is not satisfactory to me.  It’s like a bad disco shorting out with all the flicker.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

I don't have a 3DTV and I have no intention what-so-ever of getting one.

I don't want to pay the money for the TV, I don't want to pay the money for the glasses, I don't want to pay the extra money for 3D BluRays, and most of all, I just don't want to wear the glasses (I already wear glasses). At the moment, it's a pretty pointless gimmick.

Yea, I'm waiting for affordable 4KTVs with passive 3D myself ("2K" is 2048x1080, so I guess you meant 4K).

I have one. When I first got it, I was using the 3D effect all of the time. I have the 3D Network and a couple of other 3D channels and I'd watch stuff I didn't even like just because they were in 3D. I bought a few 3D Blu Rays including re-purchasing How to Train Your Dragon just to watch in 3D and amaze people. I planned on going back and playing my 3D capable games like Arkham City, Enslaved, Gears of War 3 and Uncharted 3 but I never did.

Now, it doesn't seem as important. If a good 3D game came out since the purchase of my TV, I'd play it. As it stands, 3D is a feature that seems to be getting very little support. Hopefully it will become more of a standard feature when the next gen comes. I don't play my 3DS without the 3D on max because I am a fan of the feature.

I brought a new Samsung led 3D TV a few months back and am not impressed with the 3D playback. Watched Avatar on blu ray and that was all right but other movies don't come close. Played GT5 IN 3D mode once and turned it
back to 2D, hurts my eyes too much.

Dont see the point in 3d. Its just a gimmick in my humble opinion.

Yeah still got my Samsung 3DTV. He turned one a few weeks ago.

Mostly use the 3D feature for movies. In my experience the 3D effect is only really visible and impressive in CGI sequences. (Shrek, Alice in Wonderland, Avatar etc.)

I would use it for games, but consoles aren't powerful enough right now. The resolution drop is too big for my liking.
Furthermore my PC GPU has only 2 DVI outputs and no HDMI, therefore I think I can't play any games in 3D.

I used 3D shutter glasses with a CRT projector on a 72" screen for a couple of months 13 years ago until I lost interest. There were no 3D movies out of course but plenty of pc games were 3D compatible. Descent 2 was pretty convincing in 3D, and it worked fine with other fps games as well.

After a while the novelty factor wore off and I rather used 2D for the increased resolution and color. Since the technology essentially hasn't changed I'm not anxious to jump back in. I've looked at some 3D tvs in stored and sure there is less flicker now. I didn't have a problem with the flicker though, 60hz / 30fps per eye was fine for me in a darkened room.

The problem is the mismatch between focus and convergence with the stereoscopic view. It will always look like a gimmick if you can't actually turn your eyes in and focus on things coming out of the screen. And when it happens behind a tv screen it looks like a fake miniature set to me, somehow reducing the realness factor instead of enhancing it for me. I guess that's why it works best for CGI.

I'm skipping 3D for now and will upgrade when 4K becomes affordable. If 3D is still around by then I guess there will be plenty of budget 3D movies around to give it another shot.

My passive 3D LG monitor/TV came with 2 pairs of glasses, one normal and another one for people that use glasses, they are like those clips that turn your regular glasses into sunglasses:

And I've heard that with bigger screens they ship up to 4 pairs of glasses. And passive 3D TV cost about the same as regular TVs.
