Forums - General - How many of us have 3D TVs? (Now with Poll!)

Yes I have a 3D TV and enjoy it mostly using:

3D Movies 2 4.17%

3D Games 2 4.17%

3D Movies and Games 4 8.33%

2D I keep it off (didn't like it) 4 8.33%

Other - answer in post. 1 2.08%

I don't have a 3D TV. 35 72.92%

Total:48

Got a cheap LG cinema 3d tv a year or so ago. It has the option of making any movie or game 3D, so i never really understood the point of developers adding in a 3D option in their game. Always figured it was TV dependant. For instance the forced 3D on the TV compared to the developer added 3D was about the same quality with regards to depth effects.

I would love to get a PC monitor that can do the same as my television.

Again, an ideal poll thread but no poll.

No I don't have a 3D TV. And I don't particularly want one. Though I wouldn't avoid buying a 3D TV, but as they are generally more expensive than the same spec'd TV without 3D it's unlikely I'll fork out the extra dough for the 3D feature.

Thanks! I get scared I will get yelled at when I start a thread, that I didn't think of a Poll.  I added one, it's not perfect, but should get some ideas.

Personally, I really want to spend some more time on a good Passive 3D.  They seem to have the picture quality that looks good to me.

(But I'm not sure if the tech is quite there yet.  Yes, it seemst to be on PC, but the HD twins might need to wait to next gen. )

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Playing Sonic Generations on my 3DTV now. The 3d levels where you run into the screen are amazing o_O

i said "others" because i have a 3d tv since last year but don't really use it. played few games like gears 3 in 3d but yeah, it didn't make me more happy than playing it in 2d lol

I had a Samsung 56 3d tv that I used mostly for movies that I sold when I moved. It rarely got used since I'm not much of a movie guy and there isn't a lot of content, but I enjoyed it. I also played Motorstorm Apocalypse with the 3d and was fairly impressed.

I now have a Playstation 3D display that I picked up for $250. I haven't used the 3D for anything except Uncharted 3 and for some reason it felt weird to me (like Drake was just floating above the surface and my eyes had to constantly keep readjusting everytime Drake moved). I'm not sure if that was the 3D effect in Uncharted 3 or the display since I haven't used this one for movies.

Mostly I simply want a 3D display on hand for the few games and movies I like that do take advantage of it and in case more come in the future. If you go the plasma route 3D displays are not much more expensive and definitely worth the consideration if you are already looking for a new tv; however, it is probably not reason enough to consider upgrading.

How do you breathe again?

Trust me on this, using a 3DTV's build in 2d converter is no where near as good as the quality from playing a game thats in proper 3D or watching a movie that was shot in 3D and not badly converted from a 2D source.

Oh don't worry I believe you on that. It's especially apparent on 2D animation.

3D movies and games.

I don't own a 3DTV because I don't see much benefit from 3D in a passive media like television, and the shutter glasses are expensive ...

I've considered buying a 3D monitor for PC gaming, but I haven't because I don't want to upgrade my PC this year.

The last TV I bought (a couple years ago) was right before all the 3DTV's came out (After the LED-LCD ones came out though) and I would not have bought one then, but having one of my computer monitors as a 3D Monitor has convinced me of the value of 3D Entertainment (not that my 3DS didn't). So the next TV I purchase will infact be a 3D ready set, at the moment I am leaning towards active shutter glasses as they seem to be the best for picture and brightness.

Mostly watch 3D sports (when they are being shown), particularly Premier League football. Don't watch a huge number of movies, and only watch them in 3D when they've been filmed in 3D. 2D-to-3D conversions are terrible.
