I had a Samsung 56 3d tv that I used mostly for movies that I sold when I moved. It rarely got used since I'm not much of a movie guy and there isn't a lot of content, but I enjoyed it. I also played Motorstorm Apocalypse with the 3d and was fairly impressed.

I now have a Playstation 3D display that I picked up for $250. I haven't used the 3D for anything except Uncharted 3 and for some reason it felt weird to me (like Drake was just floating above the surface and my eyes had to constantly keep readjusting everytime Drake moved). I'm not sure if that was the 3D effect in Uncharted 3 or the display since I haven't used this one for movies.

Mostly I simply want a 3D display on hand for the few games and movies I like that do take advantage of it and in case more come in the future. If you go the plasma route 3D displays are not much more expensive and definitely worth the consideration if you are already looking for a new tv; however, it is probably not reason enough to consider upgrading.
