Forums - Gaming - Capcom USA Senior VP thinks Mega Man had too many sub-brands ~ What do you think would bring Mega Man back to glory?

I know MM 9&10 couldn't have been big money makers but they could keep churning those out IMO

I think he's right... but then again it works splendidly for Mario ;) Most franchises can't handle multiple sub-brands

Mario can get away with it because the Mario sub-brands are different genres. Megaman would be out of place attempting it though, plus the releases of Megaman games are so spradic. I lost interest in it since it always felt the same. If they do make another Megaman RPG it would be cool if they could make it unique and on the 3DS because I like my RPGs being portable.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward = best game ever made.

Why not do a Mega Man adventure game. I mean Mario expanded to more of an open world thing so why can't Mega Man.

Megaman is simply dying to get a Metroidvania game.

Imagine... a huge base filled with powerups, bosses and secrets.

Megaman in  a place like this...

Goty!

I personally disagree. For me, while Mega Man and those other games share extreme similarities, the core of the gameplay is different. Metroid is about progressing through an adventure, whereas Mega Man is all about tackling one specific themed stage at a time and hoping to god that you can make it through it. It's less about exploration and adventure and more about fast pace action. That's just how I feel about the two series.

Megaman is a very versatile character, imo, like Mario. He can be (and has been) in many different genres and they worked pretty well, including RPGs, Adventure games, fighting games (real megaman fighting games, not just as a character) and even sports.

I'm not saying the old formula is wrong - I love the old formula. I'm saying this type of game can work pretty well for him.

Megaman Zero 1 and its successor series Megaman ZX was that.  Though I do think the success to revamping Megaman does lie with Metroid.  I personally feel a Megaman game made in the same style as Metroid Other M is what the series needs. Not necessarily an open world games with sub areas, but the same style of gameplay with the same style of progression all tied in neatly with a level select can be a huge refresh for the series.  Finish Megaman Legends 3 to cator to that open world type game, a la Zelda, add in great marketing and I think Megaman can make a huge comeback.  But Capcom isn't exactly run by the smartest of people.

Yeah, I love them. Never played the GBA games, though.

Using Classic Megaman and fighting the Classic Robots with a cute little tale (instead of the War against Mavericks theme) in this set would be awesome.  Doctor Willy and timeless designs like Cutman, Gutsman and everybody's favorite Elecman...

More or less what they did with the with Megaman Battle Network 1, a retelling of the original mythos.

I think we should all play Megaman Zero and ZX games tbh. I haven't and I should.

I'd like to have that type of game. Where the weapons you acquire do many different things all around the game and can interact with the level and each other in interesting ways. So it's a puzzle that keeps getting put together AS you play classic megaman
