Sounds like the German School of economics.

It actually seems to work pretty well if you have a welfare system in place to help such workers.

The question here would be, works well for who?, cos i could only see it working well for someone thats already rich.

It works for those lower class workers who wouldn't have jobs otherwise that move overseas.

Likely anyway.  Not sure if it's different but in the US there is a BIG differnce between the "Working poor" and the "welfare poor" even when controlled for income.   Having a job in of tiself is a big deal.

It's like she's trying her hardest to be as hated as possible.

Though, admittedly, the silver spoon types tend to piss people off whenever they open their mouths, no matter the country.

Maybe she should set a good example and start by limiting herself to only $2 a day take home pay, and donate the rest. Calling you out, Gina...

I had some respect for her when she was simply the woman that turned her family's fortune of millions into billions. But then she went and opened her mouth and I'm starting to get the impression it was all just good luck.

Seems reasonable to me. A firm should be able to negotiate a contract with a worker thet they hire with whatever payscale they are willing to provide. No one holding a gun to your head and making you take a low paying job.

Ah yeah... it's called having to feed your family (and yourself) and a lack of better options which is what would happen if companies were allowed to do this.  Why do I say that?  Because that is exactly what had happened and what caused the entire union movement in the west and what still happens in less developed countries.

My the press like to take her out of context.

I don't think she's saying Australians should work for $2 a day, she's merely pointing out that they don't live in a vacuum. It's a global economy. All our telecommunications and many other jobs have all moved to Indian and the Philippians because it's much cheaper to hire people there. Most of our manufacturing industry has left our country to go to countries with cheap labour and poor regulations. It seems Australian has lost some great mining opportunities because it's not profitable enough to be there. So she's right to question it. However, she seriously needs to hire handers so she's not being crucified every week.

I wonder if she has ever worked in a mine before like her whole company does.
