Forums - Nintendo - Dragon Quest X Wii U Details Confirmed For Tokyo Game Show

Will Wii U bring the quest worldwide?

Dreaming of a worldwide release

Dragon Quest X on Wii arrived in Japan a month ago and has been selling in good numbers, albeit below the normal expectations for the series. This has no doubt been influenced by the waning influence of Wii, but Square Enix is now preparing to reveal Dragon Quest X on Wii U at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show, building some delicious hype at the same time.

As reported by Andriasang, Square Enix will host a special stage event during the show which will lift the lid on the Wii U version of the title. Apart from confirmation that it would be released on the new hardware, we've seen and heard nothing since; this event will be a chance to see the enhancements on Wii U and what kind of features will be included. The Tokyo Game Show takes place between 20th and 23rd September, so we can expect news and footage during that time.

Of course, there's no guarantee that this version will make it outside of Japan, but after the effort given to localise Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies on DS, we hope that this sequel will make it to the West on Nintendo's new system.

I'm sure the sub-million sales of the game are because of the platform, and not at all because it's an MMO.

I won't call the sells submillion until it stops selling. Also don't forget that in Japan, games sells in general or not as high. Generally anything that sells over $100,000 is considered a hit.

Though, for a DQ games, the sells are kind of sluggish.

For a DQ game, those sales are extremely low. For comaprison's sake, the Dragon Quest Swords spinoff game sold over 500k, while DQ Monster Joker sold 600k in its first four days (1.5 million lifetime).

DQ X is likely going to sell less than some of the spinoff titles. That's bad, especially when DQ IX did gangbusters.

I'll chalk that up to being on a dying system that is receiving no support in the wake of an even better version being announced for a newer system that is to come out in 2 months.

Perhaps you're correct; we'll certainly learn soon enough. Personally, I think the shift to an MMO did far more harm to overall sales than the choice of platform. I also highly doubt it's going to be as profitable in the long run as FF XI was, since I don't see them pumping out expansions for that 16 GB HDD as steadily as they did for the PC-based FF XI.

But time will tell.

Oh I wanna see this game :D I've seen the Wii version, but this seems more promising

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Like said before, this is an MMO. The money will come from subscribers. 500k + is not a low number by all means

500+ is indeed not bad. If those continue to pay the fees...
