If this really launches at $200, then Nintendo might not be as dumb as we think. $200 would really be competing hard with current-gen and next-gen systems.

If Nintendo actually prices their console at this price, then they have a real shot at winning next-gen again.

I just hope theyre not selling them at a loss. I love nintendo.

If that's what Nintendo needs to do to succeed, then in the end it doesn't matter because they will eventually make back their profit loss. That's exactly what Sony had to do, but although that is a little bit extreme in their case.

Still, NIntendo has made so much money with the DS and Wii that they have a cash reserve to comfort them for a looooong time.

Note: I love Nintendo too, but it's their job to earn our money. Remember that.

That's the thing, though. Sony never made that money back. Given that they burned through all the profits of the PS2 era, they have a long way to go to say that they broke even on the entire PS3 venture, right? Not quite familiar with their financials.

Either way, the Yen/Dollar Yen/Sterling Yen/Euro exchange rates means that Nintendo is going to ratchet up the price on non-Japanese

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

How likely do you think they´d do the two SKU strategy like MS did in the beginning of this gen?

Maybe like this:

SKU # 1: Wii U + one U pad + demo of a game for $250

SKU # 2: Wii U + one pad + NintendoLand for $300

But then again, I think it´s in their best interest to include NintendoLand with every console since it describes what they´re pushing (asymetric gameplay)

It could still be one of many bundles along with New Super Mario Bros. U, Zombie U and maybe even Wii Fit U. Wii Sports too is boxed, after all.

Check my post again, I added another pic

But like I said...it can, but I think it's a very good package that could be sold alone. Maybe the system will come with a light version or a minor-game, but... with Nintendo land it's too much, imo, especially for launch.

Well, the same thing can be said about Super Mario 64. Bundled titles don't need to be of low quality.

Super Mario 64 wasn't bundled at launch, though.

Still, the NES and Super NES had Mario game launch bundles.  The NES had the deluxe package, which came with R.O.B. the robot, the Zapper, two controllers and two games (Duck Hunt & Gyromite); then there was the console/controller package by itself and another with SMB.  Later there was a SKU with the Zapper and the Duck Hunt/SMB cartridge and even one that just came with the Player's Guide book.

This could be a multiple SKU strategy for Nintendo:

Basic SKU:  $249 for just the console/tablet

Bundle SKU:  $299 with Nintendoland

Deluxe SKU:  $329 with Nintendoland and a Wii remote plus

Outstanding idea, I really hope big N goes this route.  If Nintendo starts charging $60 for their games, then the "Bundle SKU" is still a good deal for those that want 'Land. I'll take the Deluxe please!

Also, to those that think Ninty can launch a Wii U with tablet sold separately, no way that happens, they want every console sold tied with that gamepad.

Oh my goodness. I hope they never go that route. 60 dollars for a game is just to much. Besides, Nintendo is all about affordability. I don't really see that happening.

I don't see Nintendo launching the system with a demo of a game, and NintendoLand is the demo of the console. If only, I could see something like

SKU # 1: Wii U + one U pad + NintendoLand for 270 $/€

SKU # 2: Wii U + one U pad + Super Mario Bros. U for 300 $/€

With NintendoLand being available to purchase for 40 $/€.

I think $60 games are a given at this point. The strong yen/weak dollar isn't going away. Even at $60 a pop games in the US are far cheaper than the rest of the globe. I'd like Nintendo games to still be $50, but I'd like Nintendo to remain in business and profitable more.

with adjusted inflation, snes games did cost 80-100 dollars at system launch year.

i had to pay 140-160 DM for many n64 games in germany which is 70-80 euro without inflation and probably 100€ inflation adjusted, nowadays i pay 50-60€ for games in germany or even less if i import them from uk (depends how the euro course is)

i feel so sorry for gamers nowadays  if they have to pay 60 bucks for a console game in the years 2012-2020 or whatever the wii u will be on the market.

This, some of the 3rd party Wii games are already retailing for 60 i dont see Ninty not charging that much for at least some of their games

Yes and no ...

I suspect that (unlike the PS3 and XBox 360) there may be a lot of games that launch at $49.99 or less for the Wii U; but these would (likely) be games like Rabbids Land, Just Dance 4, or Game Party. The bigger budget core games will certainly be selling for at least $59.99 though
