Forums - Nintendo - Wii U To Be $200 And Launch November 18th?

inside source? is that what they call anonymous sources now if they want to believe them?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

They have a console with similar capabilities as other HD consoles so why should they charge twice the price? The tablet is there to make the system more accessible (less intimidating) and offer wider gameplay possibilities. $199 - $249 are both good prices, $299 seems to be quite excessive. The system isn't significantly different in terms of hardware to the original Wii and that system was originally supposed to be priced at $199 without a game so $199 for the Wii U without a game seems pretty comparable.

Yes, you're right, but what's their market?  Are they assuming the  90+ million people who bought a Wii don't own a 360 or PS3?  I mean, Microsoft and Sony are fighting tooth and nail for "teh corez gamerz", who's gonna be left for Nintendo?  I mean, I have a hard time believing Nintendo would gimp their console so much just to go after Sony and Microsoft's shrinking market (By shrinking I mean they're yearly sales are decreasing).

Their market?

  • The people who own the Wii/Nintendo fans.
  • People whom are intimidated by the regular controler.
  • Hardcore gamers who'll buy all consoles regardless.
  • People who would have otherwise only considered the HD consoles.
  • People who want to use apps (512MB dedicated to OS).
  • People that are enticed by the new possibilities for playing games.

I think that they have a pretty good shot at selling a good quantity of consoles, but I cannot predict whether or not they'll have another smash hit. I would say sales between the 360 and Wii is a good target to guess at.

Tease.

Like seriously? No way it's under 300

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

$200? That would definitely make it very competitive with current gen consoles and persuade more consumers to choose it over the 360/PS.

What I am worried about is the hardware of this console, if they are making profit with a console selling at $200 bundled with what is likely an expensive tablet controller It makes me question the long term and short term performance of the console.

Now i can buy again all games that I already have on PS3!! Yay!!

^ This is the one misconception about Wii U that's starting to get on my nerves. Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, Darksiders II, Tom Clancy, the yearly EA Sports games. To my knowledge, that's it. Let's wait and see on Ninja Gaiden, it's possible they actually DID turn it into a decent game.

You don't "already have" Assassin's Creed 3 on your PS3. In addition to Nintendo's considerable first-party line-up, it's also got ZombiU (excl), Rayman Legends (excl), Scribblenauts Unlimited (excl), Lego City (excl), P-100 (excl), Aliens, Sonic Racing, Tekken, Injustice, Sniper, and quite a few others you probably don't care about (Just Dance, etc). And the digital support from smaller devs already looks fantastic.

Honestly, Wii U has one of the best-looking launch line-ups I've ever seen. Better than Wii and 3DS combined for sure.

I just think it's stupid to buy a Wii U to play a game that I could play on my PS3/X360... I would never buy a game system to play Rayman, Scribblenauts, Lego or even Tekken (which I played #3 throught #6 and cant stand that game anymore)...

Then buy the WiiU for the exclusives? The other 3rd party ports are just an easy way for 3rd parties to get a game on the console; get used to how it works with minimal expense. If that's the case, expect further 3rd party games (like GTA V, hopefully) down the line.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

It IS stupid to buy a Wii U to play a game you could play on your PS3 or 360. That's why it also has about a dozen great exclusive games in its launch window. As it happens, you wouldn't buy it for them, either, which is pretty good for you I guess because it saves you several hundred dollars.

@bolded:  Yeah, I'd say when you consider variety and quality combined, it's probably the best, most robust launch line-up of any game system ever... even if it does lack something of the caliber of, say, a Mario 64 or Twilight Princess.

Twilight Princess was a great game, but it was a cut-and-dry port of a GameCube game. Nintendo did a great job marketing it as a Wii game, but if we're talking quality and not sales potential, at least Nintendo's Wii U offerings represent a clear upgrade over what the Wii was capable of.

No, it's not. You want to know why? Because everyone doesn't own a PS3 or 360. And even those who do may wait for the Wii U version since it has improved gameplay thanks to the new controller. I mean, why not? You will buy a Wii U mainly for the upcoming Nintendo games released for it, so you might as well get the superior third party title versions while you are at it?

Bottom line: It is not stupid at all.

If this really launches at $200, then Nintendo might not be as dumb as we think. $200 would really be competing hard with current-gen and next-gen systems.

If Nintendo actually prices their console at this price, then they have a real shot at winning next-gen again.

I don't know why people tell me to get a life. I'm a gamer, I have lots of lives!

The phrasing of the statement ("It is stupid to buy a Wii U to play a game you could play on your PS3 or 360") makes it pretty clear that this is under the assumption that "you" own a PS3/360. Since, you know, MegamanZX, who I was addressing, does own one or both of those consoles, which is why he said "I could play on my PS3/X360" in the first place.

I still agree that it would be dumb to buy a new console if the ONLY games you are interested in playing on that console are games you've already played on other consoles.
