Forums - Nintendo - WiiU will bomb hard this holidays season and will only sell, by the end of 2012, roughly 3M total worldwide

Depending on when it launches 3 million units by the end of 2012 could be huge or just "average" ...

While it is theoritically possible for Nintendo to still launch the Wii U late September or early October, the likely release date is the middle of November. 500,000 units per week for a system which will probably not be able to manufacture much more for that sales period is pretty impressive. Hypothetically speaking, if Nintendo started manufacturing earlier or had their manufacturing capacity high enough they might be able to supply 750,000 units per week over that time frame but I doubt many systems at launch would have that kind of supply.

Silly hardcore gamers don't seem to get the casual market.

The Wii U's sales figures will depend on how many units they could produce over the period. If they produce 3 million units over the holidays, they'll sell three million. If they make four million, they'll sell four million. Beyond that it might get a little iffy.

I'm going to go on the record here with this. IF the Wii U's price is 350 or less with Nintendoland as a pack in AND it launches by November 18th, it will be the number one selling console this holiday.

Nintendo is still the number one company in terms of family friendly gaming. Many people who already owned the Wii last year wanted something new, so they bought the X-Box or the PS3. This year will bring another round of Wii owners looking for something new, and Nintendo should have be able to win those people over.

As for the tablet, people are overlooking its appeal. It's designed to turn gaming into something that feels familiar. I think that if a person who isn't a console gamer but owns a smartphone or ipad sees the Gamepad, they're going to be curious and want to pick it up and try it. From there, if the software is good, it will win them over.

I see the Wii U as a fairly similar product to the Wii, and if Nintendo markets and prices it correctly, I see no reason for it to be unsuccessful.

What if Nintendo said on September 13th: "Wii U is available now. $299"

Sony will announce that the PS4 will be 199.

2012, this is this year. I dont know how it would sell 3 mio in 1,5 or 2,5 months? Not possible. The hardware is bad, and it will be surely overpriced.
Why should any parent buy a wiiu? It s not like with the wii., where it was revolutionary to play with motion control and everyone could think "Oh I will keep myself fit with all the motion gaming" or "Oh at least my kid(s) will do some moves and not only sit on the couch while playing games. this should be healthy, yes I buy them a wii".

1. The price will "surely" be overpriced? Get a hold on yourself. Nintendo said that they have learned their lesson with the 3DS.

2. There will still be motion control games for the Wii U, thus people will still stay fit through gaming if they wish to do so.

3. Now there will be a new argument, namely the "We can play using the controller even if something you like comes on TV."-argument. Might not be as big or revolutionary as the motion controls, but it will push some sales.

Yeah, but then we'll already be looking forward to the year 2014. Don't you think this is a possibility? Perhaps a wild one, but it wouldn't shock me!

I was just making a Saturn joke really.  I'd be pretty shocked if Nintendo tried a stealth launch like that, especially considering that they've been pretty lax with their marketing push so far.  September should mark the beginning of Nintendo's real Wii U campaign.  Once their marketing blitz starts, we'll see how appealing their concept is to the average gamer.  Right now, I don't think people aren't hyped about the Wii U because they don't like the idea.  I think they just don't really know about it yet.

3m WiiU's in 2 months? Yeah, it'll happen. You seem to forget that this is the 7th year of this generation! 6 years since a new home console launched! WiiU will practically sell itself.

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Lets wait till we have a tad more info before we can make assumptions.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Oh please, here is another Nintendo is doomed thread. Until the September press conference on games, hardware, prices and so on, how can you make such a bold statement (where are your sources?). Nintendo is keeping a lot of information a secret as other companies would jump the wagon and copy such innovative features (smartglass anyone?). Hence, although my Wii is collecting dust as I haven't played it since 2011, it is never wise to count Nintendo out of the equation.

I'm pretty sure this thread is sarcastic.

My bad if it is lol :P

I'm posting on your wall if you're wrong. Be afraid.
