Forums - Nintendo Discussion - What's up with the NSMB2 numbers for US and EU? EDIT: predict the sales of NSMB2 for this year!

Saturation or Stagnation?

Looking through the sale numbers this morning I noticed that NSMB2 have managed to sell a whooping 300k between the US and EU. 300k... Doesn't that seem like a pretty small number for a Super Mario game?! I know, I know - it only sold for ONE (1) day in both regions - but in Japan NSMB2 managed to sell 600k in two days - and that's Japan only! And, yes, of course we have to wait for the digital numbers as well. But considering that about 5% of NSMB2 sales in Japan were through the eShop I wouldn't expect more than 10-15% digital sales in US and EU...

What do you guys think? Are we seeing Mario-saturation?! Or stagnation? What gives??

EDIT: Most people seem to agree that it's still good numbers Mario's pumping out, and apparently better than the original DS games first day. Now I wanna know what your prediction is for this game for this year. When 2013 comes a-rolling (presuming the world won't end!) how much will NSMB2 have sold this year?

Yeah, yeah Mario has great legs - but an opening sale of 330K in US AND EU seems... meager =/

I have no idea at all what the original DS game sold in it's first day in US and EU, but surely - it must have been better than this?! I'm expecting total sales, with digital downloads, to be 360k-380k, and for a 2D Mario that seems like quite small numbers... But, like I said, I have no idea what kind of sales to expect really.

Nope. Similar numbers. Don't forget it's still summer, very slow month. It will continue to sell well for weeks before selling great in the holidays. I think 6 mil by end of year

So these numbers are to be expected then? Anyone else who think that NSMB2 will hit 6m by the end of the year? More? Less?

I've never considered any Mario game to be the kind of game that HAS to be purchased on day one. They're great games but you already know what you're getting into. Nobody is going to spoil the story or become better than you online or anything. It starts off relatively conservative but, when other video games have blown their load and fallen asleep, Mario is still in there just pumping and pumping......turned myself on. Now, I'm going to watch some porn.

*I'm back*

Anyway, next year this time, Mario will still be selling well and it will still cost full price. That's how Johnny C do.

It is surprising that even with the launch of the XL we have these numbers. Now I know how sony gamers feel with vita numbers. That is not a jab at them. I am talking about digital sales. The west love their ipads and high powered cell phones and in America at least we got a midnight opening. On this site a bunch of people downloaded at midnight. At least they said they did in the nintendo news thread. I think the download percentage will be much higher in the west even though we are a culture of hoarders and love to buy objects and store them in our bathrooms.

Yeah, I downloaded at midnight (on my kid's 3DS) and then I bought a retail copy for myself later on that day.  I don't store anything in my bathroom, though.  Unless it's poop.

The first week in Americas will be 5% at most of the overall sales long-term. And it trended above the DS one (though I do not expect that to continue).

Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. "  thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

It's pretty weak compared to the Wii game, but it's slightly better than the DS game (even though I expect it to fall behind relatively quickly).

Part of the answer would be that the Wii game release in November on a console with a higher userbase.

Its a New Super Mario Bros, which I think isnt as popular as other Mario games. I cant wait for them to announce/release a new 3D Mario (or hopefully a new 2D Mario game with a different style).

Shirley you jest.  NSMB normally rapes the 3D games in sales.

Now a new 2D game that isn't called "new" with a different style, that could do pretty well.
