Why so little activity?

We banned the trouble makers 13 16.05%

School's in 13 16.05%

The industry is slow 25 30.86%

Nintendo has taken over 22 27.16%

Other (please explain) 8 9.88%

Total:81

I have, it's called "every year from June to September".

Don't worry. Some games will come out so we have some games to discuss, and then we'll have the Wii U and maybe we can even get a good sales war going again. Mid-year, late-generation blues. People have been saying things to this effect for the last two years. Hell, I remember when VGC 2.0 "killed the community", and that was three years ago.

Lack of good moderation has killed the community in my eyes. The MS section was killed quite awhile ago. And now the others are also slowing down. Hard to have good discussions in this forum. Rules seem to apply to some but not others.

Would you be part of the 50% who think we're too strict or the 50% who think we're too lenient?

I'd say it's already a lot better than just 2 hours ago! Early in the USA and people in school in Europe. In around 3 hours, we will reach the peak of the day (or near it).

I blame you for going to medical school. Just get a job at the local Lava production factory and call it a day.

We don't need factories to make our lava, the volcanoes do it for free ;o

yeah, but some ones gotta harvest it right?! It ain't gonna be harvesting itself ya kno'...

Well, that's where you're wrong!

Damn! You imprison trolls and fairies and force them to do your dirty work?! (As everybody knows, trolls and fairies don't appear on pictures, but rest assured that they are indeed there, slaving their lifes away under the cruel gaze of the evil Icelandic Empire)

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

You're both of course. Too strict on the people who love the same things I do and too lenient on people who like things I don't.

You guys are both. Sometime too strict, sometimes too leniant. really depends on the mod i think. I dont know how many we currently have but the rules seem unevenly applied most of the time. Or applied with out thought. Really in most threads there is not really any discussion just banter and posting gifs. Across all the boards I see. I think losing a third of the community (the ms section) really hurt. Not sure what can be done to fix it. I like the structure of these forums so I stay and browse as a lurker but the discusiins seem to get worse year after year.

^MS was never close to a third of the community. It is a bit smaller now, but has always been pretty damn small.

It was years ago. At least the PC section has grown. It seems to be the only section that has grown but it has allways been very small.

There is a new wave of juniors on neogaf. Don't know if it is related.

Also, summertime.

Here are my thoughts:

1. The console generation is almost over -- and the sales outcome has been decided for quite a while.
1a. The handheld generation has not yet developed into anything interesting.

2. There are other outlets for people who are interested -- especially those who are more devoted to one or another of the consoles.

3. There is an increasing presence of real life -- the older you get, the less free time you have.

4. Things change over time. To some the site trying to become more professional with its news decreased their involvement, thus their interest and their posting. To others, various decisions on what is easily available vs. what is an add-on has yielded the same result.

5. The deletion of all posts by banned members -- including non-offending ones -- often makes it difficult to follow a thread. This is a particular problem with the banned member has posted the OP.

6. The all-to-often derailment of threads based upon philosophy rather than fact. This is not just a VGC problem as it seems newer posters on many websites and forums are just there to annoy rather than to inform.

That's my thoughts in a nutshell. Over time, my average has dropped from 4 posts a day to 3. I come here, but not as much and not as often. And while that drift might be natural, there are not quality newcomers taking up the slack -- at least here at VGC.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

The forums are slowing down but they are definitly more active than they have been in the worst times.

Also were at the end of the generation. There isnt really too much to talk about. Once Wii U comes out this place will explode. Once we have all three next gen consoles it will be just as packed as the old days

Probably a combo of what some have said.

Lack of interest. Aging Gen. prominent members leaving. Some going into lurker mode. Some big names r gone or less active who had been here since the early years. Since they left there is a vacuum.

There may b a glimmer of hope this fall. One can only hope.
