Forums - Gaming - Now this is where WiiU should have gone - and Sony/MS can still go. VR arrives!

"I must say, if Sony or MS can buy this up and make it part of their next gen system, they will win the next generation hands down".

Really?? I wonder

1) how much more money will implementing device this increase the overall development cost of the consoles pushing their prices up and more importantly

2) how much would this gizmo cost the consumer? Edit: Just saw around $300.00 so ignore.

3) Why can't the wii u have it?

VR is only a dream of a small subset of gamers, so it wouldn't help Sony and MS to succeed on a broad scale. Quite the opposite actually: VR would ensure failure.

Pshaw. VR is sort of the singularity point of all future entertainment forms; the problem is that this isn't really VR, it's a TV you wear on your head.

Okay, so VR will flop in the form it is presented in the OP.

It has pretty much every other time it's appeared, so I am forced to agree

Nintendo should learn that we need moar colors than red!

A 3d display that can accurately track your every head (and possibly eye) movement is near enough for mass market penetration.

A VR controller would be akin to WiiU's gamepad.  The wearer has his own screen (with no peaking!), other players would watch the TV screen (or possibly another VR).

Head tracking isn't going to be that useful for the only genres where that actually matters, though.

Like I said: it's a very nice piece of tech, but this isn't the revolution everyone is waiting for. THat's still decades off.

Sure, this was a long time ago, but judging by the pic you still have this machine on your face.

Oh be quiet. That was years ago and most probably was a piece of junk.

@OP. The Sony 3D headset is similar in experience minus the virtual reality. It is my opinion that these kinds of technologies that isolate you from reality are still far from mainstream adoption because it is in a sense a hazard to be connected to a device without seeing what's happening around you, unless it's in a controlled environment. Until this becomes very lightweight and easily disconnectable without having to jump in and out of reality, it will be a commercial problem.

Isn't it too expensive?

I think this won't work as well as many think.

imagine turning full 360 in FPS games. You'd still have to have one thumb stick to move around and turn while you move your head (as if its the 2nd stick), but that would be overall more nauseating and definitely cause issues.

I prefer wiimote/nunchuck or dual sticks all combined with TV.

Don't forget about this. Anything that as to attach to your face will have limited success.
