A 3d display that can accurately track your every head (and possibly eye) movement is near enough for mass market penetration.

A VR controller would be akin to WiiU's gamepad.  The wearer has his own screen (with no peaking!), other players would watch the TV screen (or possibly another VR).  

Head tracking isn't going to be that useful for the only genres where that actually matters, though.

Like I said: it's a very nice piece of tech, but this isn't the revolution everyone is waiting for. THat's still decades off.
