I can't believe people are attacking SONY fans over this, some of which are very personal and almost worthy of a ban. If you're resorting to personal attacks just because some people are criticising your preferred company then you're no better than the people you're calling out. This thread made front page whether Microsoft fans like it or not, everyone has the right to post in here.

This line was an invitation for criticism, it's deceptive and arrogant to tout these games as "true free-to-play" when they're still charging £40 a year to access them.

ok man, even though people already gave examples of SOE games that are free to play, that require no kind of subscription and even though some of those games are available on PC as well, and even though you still havent given an argument as to why they are wrong in regards to the subject of the thread, have a nice day.

Oh come on, If you go by that definition then there is no such thing as a free-to-play video game.  Of course you need to buy a system to play it on.

It pretty much comes down to this: 

PS3/PC/mobile: Hardware + internet connection = download and play F2P games 

Xbox 360: Hardware + internet connection + gold subscription = download and play F2P games

Can you talk to Sony?  Reality is that Sony and Microsoft apparently have different definition of free than people on here want to argue about.  And yes, this talk here has caused PS+ talk to be all about free games.

You dont have to pay to play DC online on PSN, but you can just like PC. The same goes for M.A.G. and I believe Dust will be Free to Play as well. The choice is pretty much yours. PSN Plus is the equivalent of what would be considered "Platinum" tier on Xbox Live, not Gold either. The point of Plus is that your $50 a year gives you major discounts on indy games (which you can keep), full games, dynamic themes, 60 minute demos and much more. The free aspect allows you to play whatever is free without shedding cash on the full cost of the game. You could play essentially a $1000's worth of games on PSN with that $50 annual price. You keep your achievements and if I stop playing the game at least I got the experience. Why should I keep every free game when I am paying $50 a year? Consider it more like a rental service that allows access for an annual fee. Can you do this on Xbox Live? No. Xbox Live Gold forces you to pay for anything that matters outside of some demos and singleplayer, even your own damn Netflix and Hulu accounts that you already pay for.
