Every 2nd thread is about how far superior the 360 is,how much Microsoft invented(even the BluRay in the Next Gen already!) and how much they shipped and how sells don't matter.Oh and of course how much better the 2 shooter exclusives they have sell compared to the 300 different exclusives other platforms have.

But i think in combination with XboxLive Gold AND PSN+ its a different thing...Free2Play as it should be is an amazing thing especially since a lot of developers start to get interested in it with high quality games.
If F2P gets it grip on consoles those subscription models should change - I think Sony has games where you don't need PSN+ at all...This is how it should be > Free for silver members.But they would need to change a lot.They probably won't do it if F2P isn't strong enough.

Ahh quite a few people feel offended that MS offers new games for free to XBL Gold owners. Instead of talking about the games they talk about the definition of free 2 play and that a payed service like XBL can never be Free 2 Play. Yeah, VGC forums are going downhill.

Another selling point for XBL Gold anyway. Can't be a bad thing if you ask me.

Idiot fans can shout "free" all they like. They're still idiots and they'll always be wrong when a subscription is a pre-requisite.

What needs to be called here though out is the fact that Microsoft are very specifically claiming "free to play". Whereas Sony has never used that term (which has a pretty well understood meaning) in relation to the "free" stuff you get as a PSN+ member.

MS was wrong to use the F2P claim. They should have come up with a different term.

Misleading and deceptive PR needs to be called for what it is. If you can point to misleading and deceptive PR from Sony around PSN+ then call it out. If not then all the blow back at fans who are delluding themselves that their getting free stuff isn't just diversion from admitting that MS has been caught in a lie.

It's unfortunate that this thread's been derailed by debating PSN+ vs Gold and what's free and what's not. But let's be honest here, would there even be a thread if MS hadn't tried to claim they were getting in to F2P? I doubt it. So the subject of the thread really is F2P, not the games themselves.

The other unfortunate thing is that it takes un-fans poking fun at the claim on forums like this for the claim itself to be exposed as a [minor] fraud. Why is the news media merely parroting MS's PR instead of holding up a light to the claim and examining it critically, and pointing out the fallacy of it? Companies get away with a lot of crap because the news media just publish company PR press releases without really looking critically at what's being said. And journalists are scared to ask the hard questions in interviews, for fear of being blacklisted and never scoring interviews again. This F2P thing is just a small little smear of pooh that barely even smells, but it's part of the PR method and it's the free pass frm the media that I really find annoying.

Sure the quoted article states XBL Gold is required. But whoever wrote it didn't say "Back up the truck mate! If you need Gold then it's not F2P! You can't call it F2P so I ain't publishing this unless you take out the F2P claim." Lack of media integrity IMO.

Your hyperbole notwithstanding, to be fair pretty much every MS puff piece I read on these forums is posted by Nsanity. One person posting most of the Xbox 360 stuff actually suggests the active Xbox fan numbers are moving from endangered to functionally extinct. Which is a shame.

I think they are a bit behind the curve right now. Sony have had some small F2P games already and successful from what I understand. MS are coming late to the F2P party. Add to that that you need gold subscription to play and you automatically exclude a whole bunch of potential customers and limit the game to approx 20M gamers (correct me if Im wrong). And I dont see F2P games as ones that will make gamers get gold subscriptions - since I would assume getting a $50/$60 subscription entirely defeats the purpose of playing F2P games.

There are other free to play games in PlayStation Home that doesn't require PSN+. I don't know what they are though, I haven't been in there in a while.
