Forums - General - What if PS4 or 720 have multiple tablet controllers? Is Wii U 'Doomed'?

Mr Khan said:
The tablet function of Wii U is going to have little to do with the Wii U's success or failure. I would argue that the feature itself is only relevant in its ability to allow some games to be played offscreen, and that the multiplayer features aren't going to be especially decisive.

If that is the main selling point anyone 1st or 3rd party or could basically create a controller with screen in the middle that transmits the gamedata from the console to the controller via bluetooth (or whatever) for any system on the market   (even Wii which would create some added confusion for Nintendo to deal with).

Wii U will have multiple Gamepad support.... so this is a non-issue.

WiiU can only support two max and even that will cause game slow-down.   There are no announced games that support more than one tablet controller, and so no one will be buying an extra controller, so no one will produce games for a non-existing audience.

Realistically, MS will not do this but will instead focus on their any tablet idea.

Sony will either copy this directly or copy MS approach with a special inclusion of the Playstation Mobile feature for Android. (and probably later expanded to iOS and WP)

i'm like 99% percent sure it was already confirmed to support 2 gamepads but that none of the launch games will support it.

sony will do what sony does, take the idea and double it.  4 vita cross-play support!

Wii U Supports five players simultaneously, or even maybe six.

Between the two tablet controllers that are confirmed, wiimote and nunchuk, balance board and pro controllers, the variety is bigger on the Nintendo platform than on everywhere else even if Microsoft or Sony copy the gamepad.

It will support two "at a later time" ... meaning probably 2013. Then there will be plenty of games that do. The latest dev kits just now have the capability to work with two gamepads, so of course these first games didn't have that support. Additionally, at first you won't even be able to buy the gamepad separately.

But by next year it will be there and probably bundled with some big Nintendo IP to push the 2nd controller option. Mario Kart 8 anyone?

It was confirmed at E3 that it will support 2 gamepads. However, that capability didn't make it into the dev kits until very, very recently and therefore no launch games will take it into account.

By next year though, things will be different.

I don't even want a tablet on the Wii U. I'm still scratching my head trying to figure out why Nintendo thinks hardcore gamers want a giant controller with a touch screen in the middle. All we wants is two joysticks and enough buttons to do the job. I didn't want motion controls and I still wish my Mario, Zelda and Metroid games this gen didn't have them. Nintendo seems to think we are tired of the standard controller. I'm not.

The only thing I'd like to see get added to the next generation is VR like the Oculus Rift. It's the most exciting advancement in interactive entertainment I've seen since the advent of 3D graphics in the 90s.

The standard controller has too steep a learning curve for people who do not otherwise want to play videogames. If anything, the Wii U controller is a step back in regards to accessibility

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

"I'm not predicting this will happen, but if it does, how does WiiU remain relevant?"

Wii series, Mario Kart, 2D Mario, 3D Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Super Smash Brothers, Metroid, Star Fox, Pikmin, Pokémon, F-Zero etc, etc...

How come people keep overlooking this?

IDK, its the same reason Nintendo handhelds will remain as the sole dedicated portable console.

Did not know that.  Thanks for the info.   Still, it'll probably have little 3rd party support because it'll be a small audience at best that have it.
