Forums - Gaming - A detailed analysis that indicates FFXV will release on current gen hardware

They won't. Square-Enix likes building up hype for these games a long time in advance, and all they showed to us last E3 that is any indication of a new FF game is an engine that takes a lot more power than what the current systems can offer. I think that is plenty indication that their plans are towards the distant, next gen future.

... well, we might get a FFXIII-3. But that's because that engine has been perfected and they can easily churn out games in that fashion a lot faster.

TBH, you can't rely on that as an indication. They still have FF Versus XIII and FFXIV: A Realm Reborn to release and instead of making those playable and have a trailer at E3 2012, they announced a next-gen engine instead. Really, their announcement schedule is all over the place.

Also, they showed a PS2 tech demo of FFVIII and FF The Spirits Within almost a year before FFIX was announced for PS1.

The FFXIV fiasco pushed everything back by two years like they said so you need to take that into consideration.

Exactly.

FFXV was probably supposed to come out in 2012 while FFXIV came out in 2009. When FFXIV bombed, FFXV got pushed back so that SQEX could make FFXIV from scratch. FFXV is probably still for current gen but has just been delayed. After all, how can you release FFXV before the remake of FFXIV?

pretty much this, the producer talked about 300 people working on it

i believe the last big thing on this gen will be Versus, at least that is FF releated

It is highly unlikely they were developing XV right after XIV came out, at the time they had XIII-2 and Versus.

I think Versus was basically just turned into XV a while ago.

I could see it launching on all platforms, built for PS3-360-Wii U, but scaled up 1080p + 8x AA etc. on PS4/720.

Either that or it's running on that Agni next-gen engine, in which case it'll be PS4/720 only.

I think that there was definitely a team making FFXV while FFXIV was in development.

  • FFX team = FFXIII and FFXIII-2
  • Kingdom Hearts II team = FF Versus XIII
  • FFXI team = FFXIV and FFXIV: A Realm Reborn
  • FFXII team = FFXV
So when FFXIV bombed, FFXV was delayed in order for SQEX to make FFXIV: A Realm Reborn from scratch.
