Forums - General - Anyone here that learned German as a foreign language? / Still learns it?

Hey guys.

I wonder if anyone here learned German as a foreign language?

Do you think it was/is hard to learn?   What was/is your biggest problem in learning it?  The CH and CK sounds? Der/Die/Das?

How did your perception of the language change? Do you still think its the "angry sounding language"?  (e.g. ACHTUNG!  NEIN!  etc...)

Was there a moment where German was useful to you? Visiting a German speaking country?   Having  small talk with German tourists?  Having German relatives? Did German help you get a girlfriend/boyfriend?

Please also dont hesitate to show some of your German skills.

Thank you very much / Vielen Dank!

I took it in High school. It was actually a lot more fun than boring spanish. Pretty easy too. I remember nothing other than ...

You're boring!

OT: Took some lessons about 12 years ago, and again couple of years ago. I regret I wasn't consistant enough to keep studying, as I do like the language.

I don't think it is that hard, if you already know english. Der/die/das and its conjugations are not that hard, only a bit confusing if your native language already use articles and they differ from the ones in german.

I don't think it's a rude language, I actually like it more than english.

I used it once in Austria, as I needed to ask the bus driver for directions.

I'm trying to learn it. Very slowly

My german teacher grew up in the states, so she didn't have some weird accent, lol. I liked the class, and I did pretty well, I plan to become fluent eventually, but, I want to learn japanese 1st.

I did at highschool, but that was more than 20 years ago now.

yeah I had German as third language back in school - took it for about 5 years... I always found the grammar hard, and when to use der, das und die (most of the time you could figure out if it was masculine or feminine - but not always) . On the other hand I had no problems "sounding" like a German. I had a German co-worker once who said I had quite a good pronunciation! :D

Nowadays I hardly speak it at all, and thus my knowledge has faded a bit. But it's always fun to speak it with some Germans :D and it's quite fun hearing German tourists speak, since I understand bits and pieces of what they're saying :P

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Sadly our school has nothing more than Spanish (Don't want to learn that) and French (What I am taking).

I think German would be interesting but it does seem pretty difficult.

I think It should be standard to anyone, talking 3 languages.

Still learning it, yeah, it's pretty much the language of anger haha, specially with the french R.

Anyways german is still to awesome for words. Remember the first lesssons as if they were today.
