Forums - Nintendo - 3DS water damage.

Well, it's drying... will see if that works.

If not, have to get a new one or something i guess.

I miss the good old days on the Gameboy. That thing could survive a bomb blast.

I knew someone who lost their Gameboy, found out like a month later they had dropped it in the snow. And after the snow melted. Worked fine.

Always epic

That sucks! Do the rice thing though. That's the best we can tell you. (Other than sending it in.)

Now imagine dropping water on your computer... yeah...

Your girlfiend has to blow until it's dry.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

Make her buy another 3ds or dump her!

...Or take it to a local game store, not a chain gamestop, but like a 3rd party game store. Some, like the one in my neighborhood can fix consoles for a price.

Keep it turned off and put it in a bag of uncooked rice for three days. It will absorb the moisture out of the system. Worked for my friend that dropped his smartphone in a pitcher of beer.

I can attest that this actually does work; it might also help to put under a lamp while in the rice, too.

Remember they are things your girl can give you that you 3ds can so be understanding.

It should function just long enough to fool those suckers at Gamestop. Trade it in like I did my broken Xbox that couldn't read discs! Use the credit to get something awesome like a Playstation Vita.

Women. They fuck shit up even when sleeping.

Looks like at some point in the night my girlfriend spilled water on my DS tossing and turning in her sleep.

What's weird is, the touch screen will work, but then it won't, the buttoms will work, but then they won't in other areas.

Not sure what would cause sporadic button and touch screen failure... seems to ALWAYS be on the same screens.

Might just have to send the thing in, which is a pain int he ass because apprently my serial number wasn't recorded so i need to sort out when it was purchased and the warranty info and shit.

What a pain.

Any ideas?

Buttons usually are round leadpads that get pressed down and then connect 2 parts of a trace/ conducting path  that were disconnected before.

So it seems something is preventing the sides frome being connected again.  It really might be  the rest of the water that when you press down and then let go keeps connecting the lines.  (a pressed button cant be pressed again so this might be the reason you think its not working  the system thinks you never let go of the button)  Just a guess tho.

I think when the water vaporated it went upwards like vapor usually does and then some rest was gathered  in the round "lead pad chambers" (im sorry I lack english words for all this LOL i hope you know what I mean)

Im talking about this.

And that might be the reason It's not working.    You should try put the thing into a bag of rice and then onto a heater or into an oven  dont go higher than 50 celsius 122fahrenheit!   Better would be somewhere around 38°C / 100°F.

ATTENTION:  Be sure to turn off the device completely   and if possible try to  place the thing so that the buttons that dont work point upwards because vapor will go upwards and if your device is on the wrong side etc it can travel through the device again and get stuck under a more  important/ sensitive part
