Forums - Nintendo - 3DS water damage.

Looks like at some point in the night my girlfriend spilled water on my DS tossing and turning in her sleep.

What's weird is, the touch screen will work, but then it won't, the buttoms will work, but then they won't in other areas.

Not sure what would cause sporadic button and touch screen failure... seems to ALWAYS be on the same screens.

Might just have to send the thing in, which is a pain int he ass because apprently my serial number wasn't recorded so i need to sort out when it was purchased and the warranty info and shit.

What a pain.

Any ideas?

Ask your girlfriend for a XL..it´s only fair.

what's espiecally weird is, certain buttons don't work at some times... but others do....

those buttons having previously worked earlier.

Seems like everythig but the Y button for some reason...

Do you have a warranty? On the girlfriend I mean.

you should have immediately unscrewed the back cover, taken the battery out, and let it sit there for days or weeks to let it dry out, right now there is probably already permanent electrical damage on it =/

It looks like the water have affected the circuitry of the buttons.

The problem is in bright screens or when it is loading something?

Let it dry completely on a dry place for some days.
Sometime ago I spilled a glass of water in my notebook's touchpad. I thought it was done for, it was jumping the mouse pointer all over the place - I had to uninstall it and use a mouse.

But some months later, I used a heater on it for a few days just for kicks and voilá, it worked again, still do.

Keep it turned off and put it in a bag of uncooked rice for three days. It will absorb the moisture out of the system. Worked for my friend that dropped his smartphone in a pitcher of beer.

yeah this can work, but you have to take the battery out before it leaks chemicals into your device... Friend of mine owns a phone repair shop and this is the first advice he gives people when they drop liquid on their phones..
