Fanboys need to "prove" to rival fanboys that their console is better. One of the arguments they use are the exclusives. Less exlusives, less arguments. Nuff said.

WHat it seems like you're trying to hard to ignore about my point, is that amazing games are made in order to be competitive. First parties go balls out to bring you the best game, because that company wants you to buy their hardware. Without hardware competition, you would not have the same level of games. Just look at multiplat now. The biggest game is one that virtually has remained unchanged for 5 games (though I would argue it's actually gotten worse). |
thats just it though, a 1st party has a different mission than a third party. Its the first party job to wow us and get us to buy there hardware, that is not a 3rd parties responsibility. They need to get there game in as much hands as possible, and they are not going to do that sticking to one console
| oniyide said: @SvennoJ true but how much games have that happened to be the case this gen. I dont think Bioshock 1 being ported to PS3 slowed down Bioshock2 from coming out( it was delayed for different reasons) |
The 2 I can think of nobody is complaining about that I know of.
I know CD projekt red had their hands full on The witcher 2 port for a year, which they could have been spending on The witcher 3.
Same with From software, Darker souls instead of struggling with a pc port. Free dlc is fine, but a whole new game would be even better.
In the case of Bioshock 2, I don't think many people were waiting for a 2nd one. The first one was a nice contained story. The 2nd one met a lot of resistance. I still haven't gotten round to playing it although I bought it in a Steam sale a long time ago.

true, but we dont know if those games were even being made.
comitment, simply as that.its like lets say it this, way,if ur wife is comited to u for years and one day shes is in a open relationships ,its going to piss u off
The only thing more fun than playing a game is bragging to people about how much more fun you're having than they are. When they have access to the same game you were dangling in their face, you have one less thing to brag about. Maybe you hyped a game up to an insane degree. It's an unspoken rule amongst owners of the same platform to make the game seem better than it really is (Alan Wake/MGS4, for example). Now, the competition has that same game and they're going to know just how full of shit you are.
Gamers want to be part of the winning team. How can you win if the competition has everything that you have? Find the one teeny tiny thing that makes your console different and make it seem like the greatest thing ever? No, it's much easier to say "I can play this game and you can't."
Do you have any idea how many walls I punched when I found out that Street Fighter 2 was going to be on Sega Genesis? None. But I should have punched a wall.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying, can you rephrase?
You agree that a first party's job is to get people to buy the system, ie, make a game so good that people plunk down 300$ for both the game and the system.

can you give some examples? Because outside of FF13, which was already on its path before they ever started porting i cant think of any. That also doesnt really explain your games like Deadspace extraction which was already well released on a system prior to going to another one |
Their are many examples in my opinion
Mass effect 1 to Mass effect 2 went more casual and some did not like it
Demons souls to dark souls dare I say it dark souls was much easier
Bioshock to Bioshock 2, Bioshock 2 was considered by many worse then the 1st
Turok was a pretty high rated game in the past on N64 and now is considered pretty bad
If GT5 or Halo were multiplats, the quality may still be there but I do not think enough effort would be done on them.

When im talking multiplats im strictly talking 3rd party games. 1st party shouldnt even come into the picture because those belong to whatever manufacturer the console is. But that has nothing to do with 3rd parties, they are not trying to sell a system

Mass Effect has been multiplat for a while(PC/360)
Demon's soul havent played the sequel but i dont see how going multiplat made the game easier. They probably did that to get broader appeal
Turok was made by a completly different dev team. the company that made those N64 games arent even around anywmore
