When you have segmented consumers: those that have a Vita and PS3 and those that don't, it ends up being bad business for companies to create a game that would require people to buy those two things in order to play. Only chance would be if Sony includes Vita's with PS3s but then, how many of the current user base have a Vita? 2 million top, maybe. So the WiiU has the advantage of having everything from the get go, but still we will need to see if this "innovative" iPad+console feature would matter at all.
However, given that the Vita ought to be more advanced than anything that WiiU controller may bring forth, if Sony does some games for the PS3+Vita combo it could have superior integration than that of Nintendo, if implemented well. Unless the PS3, being less powerful than the WiiU, possibly lol, could drag down somehow the gaming possibilities. Still, I don't think Sony has a chance of having any impact with this Vita+PS3 feature by facing segmented consumers.
