Forums - Gaming - How Does The PS3/Vita Combo Stack Up Against The Wii U/GamePad?

Well, the WiiU and Gamepad is more like the same device, where as PS3/Vita is more like two devices.
The Gamepad is the controller. Where as the Vita is not limited to being the controller (not nearly as limited as the Gamepad.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

It has to be PS4/Vita

Because no one will make a PS3 game that requires a vita
Well, if Vita REALLY fails, maybe it can be used by Sony to be a PS4 controller pad... but I doubt it - why include a controller with a powerful CPU/GPU/etcU?

The last time i made a thread about this, it got locked. But this might not because it does not say Nintendo copying Sony.

When you have segmented consumers: those that have a Vita and PS3 and those that don't, it ends up being bad business for companies to create a game that would require people to buy those two things in order to play. Only chance would be if Sony includes Vita's with PS3s but then, how many of the current user base have a Vita? 2 million top, maybe. So the WiiU has the advantage of having everything from the get go, but still we will need to see if this "innovative" iPad+console feature would matter at all.

However, given that the Vita ought to be more advanced than anything that WiiU controller may bring forth, if Sony does some games for the PS3+Vita combo it could have superior integration than that of Nintendo, if implemented well. Unless the PS3, being less powerful than the WiiU, possibly lol, could drag down somehow the gaming possibilities. Still, I don't think Sony has a chance of having any impact with this Vita+PS3 feature by facing segmented consumers.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Man, if I see two games that actually use the Vita in conjunction with the PS3 (Wii U style.  You know what I mean.), I'll probably die of shock.

So in other words: The Vita promises to be Sony's version of the Sega Nomad, except with very limited content; whereas the Wii U game pad is an integrated part of the Wii U interface.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

@d21lewis dust 514, littlebigplanet, guacamole and mvc all use the vita wiiu style. There's more I just can't remember the others off the top of my head.

I don't it fair to compare the two. The Vita is a handheld device that can be use as a substitute controller and the Wii U GamePad is...a controller. It's like comparing an iPone to a 360 controller. Like the 360 controller, The GamePad is reliant to the Wii U console. And just like an iPhone, the Vita is a device to itself. Besides, Vita as a controller is not practical, especially with a small analog sticks.

Well considering the Wii U is $300 and PS3/V is $500, and most Wii U games will be tailor made for the "tablet" gamepad while only a handful of PS3/Vita games feature crossplay or other connectivity features, it'd say Sony doesn't stack up very well against Ninty in this department.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I don't see that as the case. It should be easy as copy paste, from WiiU to PS4 on the 3rd party side. On the 1st party side, if this turns out to be at all a viable control method, it will be supported.
