So if lower sales means lowers shipments then the PS2 must have shipped lower than 1.4m and the PS3 must have shipped lower than 1.8m.
But, this ps2 ps3 stuff is not really important to the discussion is it. Fact is, they bunched the Vita and PSP together to hide the awful Vita number, thats all that matters..

Well, its all relevant. I do think the PS3 shipped either the same as or slightly better than last year's 1.8 M. I do hope that all this doubt and criticism does force Sony to show seperate numbers next quarter, regardless of how poor the Vita is doing.

But sony says they sold (shipped) less. I think Sony lumped everything together to protect the PS3 and PSV.

The actual wording was "Sales decreased 14.5% year-on-year (a 10% decrease on a constant currency basis) to 118.0 billion yen (1,493 million U.S. dollars). This decrease was primarily due to lower sales of hardware and software of the PSP® (PlayStation Portable) and PlayStation®3, partially offset by the contribution of the PlayStation®Vita introduced from December 2011." They lumped them both together. This could mean that the PSP sold fewer HW (which it did) and SW, while the PS3 only sold fewer SW. I just find it hard to believe that the PS2 would jump from 900K during last year's holiday season and then 600K during Q1 2012 to 1.1M-1.3M with 5-6 months still to go til the holiday shopping starts.
The PS3 outshipped the both the 360 and the Wii by AT LEAST 600K, so there was no reason to protect the PS3's numbers. The lumping of the PS2 and PS3 was to remain consistent. Otherwise it would have been obvious they were protecting the Vita's numbers when they lumped the PSP and Vita together.
