If it's end of June, we can add 47k from July NPD and what ever it's done the last couple of months according to Media Create/Enterbrain.  Don't know how much it could have sold in the Europe and other territories, but it doesn't seem likely that it'll be too far above 2.2mil.  Maybe 2.35mil - 2.4mil?

Is there a point of no return, such that new games will not revive it? Or will it be fine once LBP/AC/CoD/PSASBR come out?

great hardware and poor sales = frustration

although i must say the N64 and the GC had much better games in their first year, well not so much the N64, but the GC had Sunshine, Eternal darkness, Starfox adv, Luigis mansion, Wave Race, Star wars...etc

To me, there are two main points for vita, or it's almost over:

West: This holiday season having a noticeable impact on sales. They have big games to do it, so it's doable. But that's just the first step of a super hard recovery, but like I said, it's very doable.

Japan: I think this holiday is going to be ugly for Vita there. 3DS will eat it, imo. But, if Vita manages an EPIC (EEEEEEEPIC) TGS maybe it can start anew next year - or even start the recovery still in 2012 if a MH3G thing occurs (Big TGS  game - release 2 months later). Has a chance of happening, but who knows - it'll be great, for sure, but so great to get it out of the hole? We'll have to see. Vita game heaven did not happenned (at least yet) , so that leaves us with two scenarios

1 - They're saving everything they got for TGS

2 - Things are grin for Vita support

My bet? A mix of those 2.

Japan also needs Monster Hunter, imo. Or a new similar phenom. Miku for example - big game, one week wonder. MH is incredible, if you see sales you see that apart from NIntendo games it's the only game in Japan with legs - that's the reason to me it has surpassed DQ of FF in japan. One and a half year later... game is still there, selling, keeping the system alive.

One thing that impressed me with the GC is that, despite such low sales, Nintendo sold a shit ton of software to that 21+ million userbase.  Same with the N64.

So you can play PS3 on the plane / bus / train, at McDonalds. All the places it would be a pain to lug your PS3 and a TV to get in 1/2 an hour of HD gaming.

I for one have no interest in console quality/style gaming on the go, but I imagine there's a niche market for that sort of thing. Question is how big that niche is, and what are they willing to pay?

I can see VGC being that inaccurate this early in the life of PSV. If VGC is out on PS3/360/Wii/DS/PSP LTD sales by 400K people generally don't care as it's well within MoE. Getting accurate sales estimates early in a product's lifecyle must be difficult because you don't have a decent history of sales patterns and sales distribution to plug into your formula.

It is a shame for Vita it's overtracked not udertracked.
