It's sad to see such an awesome device perform like this.

psone - 33mhz - 102million units
n64 - 94mhz - 32m
saturn - dual core 30mhz - 9m
----------------------------------------------
ps2 - 333mhz - 155m
xbox - 750mhz - 24m
gamecube - 485mhz - 21m
----------------------------------------------
ps3 - 7 core 3ghz cell - 64m
xbox - tri core 3.2ghz - 67m
wii - 749mhz - 97m

even in handhelds power =/= sales

psp - dual core 333 mhz - 71m
DS - 66mhz+33mhz - 151m

The most powerful machine I don't think in the history of console wars has never came out on top sales and profits wise. it's very odd that companys havn't figured it out yet that more mhz just doesn't right up equal more games, gamers or sales on their systems.

Tis a bit sad considing how absolutely incredible the psp was compared to the DS but I think the homebrew community made more use of the psps' power than any developer ever did.

I'm aware of the pattern. I'm fine with the Vita not being number 1. I never expected it to be. If this gen played out like PSP/DS only even more in favor of Nintendo, I would be fine with that. But it sucks that it's doing so much worse than that. Also, when I say awesome device I don't mean just hardware. The system actually has an awesome library for those that want deep games as well as the short burst pick up and play fans. Access to a lot of the PSP's library and soon a decent chunk of the PSOne's library. It has an awesome feature set. It's an all around great device but sadly consumers just don't want it.

What pickup and play games are available?  If they exist I'm not aware of them, that's how bad the marketing of the Vita has been.  Consumers cannot make buying decisions if you don't inform them.  This has been one of the worst managed releases in memory, it literally has no buzz...

Sound Shapes
Super Stardust Delta
Escape Plan
Little Deviants
Lumines Electronic Symphony
Modnation Racers
A number of Fighting games
Rayman Origins
Tales from Space
WipeOut
Some smaller 1-3$ games in the store that I ignore.

From this list I have Lumines and Super Stardust Delta I mean they are so absolutely beautiful to look at on the psvs screen, I had the first 2 lumines games on the psp and outside of the odd reshuffle thing they bought in I would say if you like music puzzle games lumines alone could be a system seller for you, you also got an amazing version of Touch my Katamari which has loads of stages where its just 2-3 mins of rolling up a town into a ball, but yeah.... look at these games on the sales charts and I think they are both around the 30k mark, it's pathetic that there is nothing about any vita game outside of Dude Raider portable, that is truely a sit infront of a huge TV game, it does not lend itself very well to portable play, IMO dear me the most important 3 letters in my post :D IMO! I'm sure if you hate music games and quirky japan games then Lumines and Katamari would prolly make you smack your vita off a wall and if you're into raiding dudes then you'd get loads outta Uncharted.

One thing in the Vita's favor in the 3DS doesn't seem to have a powerful lineup for the rest of the year.

Well, it has Pokemon... even if it is for DS.  That and Mario is all it needs.

Will Pokemon push many systems though? Won't almost everybody who's into Pokemon already have a DS/3DS?

And will Paper Mario? The "Sticker Star" subtitle does have the whiff of a gimmicky/childish approach that might put off some gamers, and again, won't Mario fans already be buying the system for 3D Land and NSMB2?

Everyone who likes Pokemon certainly won't own a 3DS as there's been no Pokemon released specifically for that system yet.  And judging from the spike in DS/3DS sales when Black2/White2 was released, no, everybody who likes Pokemon don't already have a DS either.

Paper Mario has a huge cult following.  I don't think there's anything gimmicky/childish about it all, you're just trolling.  Besides, Paper Mario isn't a system mover at all, it's there to please fans of the series and will sell quite nicely.

Bottom line:  3DS will have no problem this holiday and Mario and Pokemon will really push sales.  The 3DS will be fine.  It's the Vita you need to be worried about.

Whoa, whoa, how did ANYTHING I said constitute trolling? I didn't even comment on Paper Mario itself, just the way the "Sticker Star" subtitles might sound to some people. No need to be so defensive man, I'm not insulting anyone or anything here.

I'm just unsure whether the 3DS's lineup for the rest of the year will really push sales. Obviously evergreens like NSMB2, 3D Land, and Kart will, not to mention the traditonal Nintendo holiday boost. It's going to sell well. I just don't see it doing explosively well like last year because there's nothing like Kart to give it a mega-boost these holidays, and that means less pressure on the Vita. Just so we're clear, I DON'T THINK THE VITA WILL EVEN COME CLOSE TO 3DS SALES, THIS HOLIDAY SEASON OR LIFETIME. All I'm saying is that the Vita might still post good numbers once the games arrive.

Shuhei Yoshida, after reading this news on the Internet: "Oh, it seems these sales are bad. But I know exactly what the Vita needs: less exclusives!"

Well, Vita games dont sell (cause the system doesnt sell), so even Sony has to recoup the development costs. I wouldnt be surprised if they announced a PS3 version of Wipeout 2048 soon aswell.

That is just rediculous. So now you basically have the Vita costing a bit more than the PS3 and having the very likely possibility of having nothing of it's own just a few scaled down ports of available ps3 games? what market are they going for here with this plan?

It is genuinely depressing to watch.

The Vita could have had a better start, but it's not that bad either. It's still on track to become the second best selling non-Nintendo handheld of all time and this in and of itself is a major success.

I can see where your coming from.

But bottom line is.. its selling less than=equal to psp numbers. Specially knowing that the Psp is 7 years old lol.

LOL, he was taking the piss...

Can you even think of a handheld that is non-nintendo and sold well!?

PSP sold well. Not being the most successful console in a generation doesn't mean you didn't sell well.

OK you got me there, I was more focusing on the sentiment of Rol's post. Clearly he's taking the mickey becoming the 2nd most successful non-nintendo handheld is not measure of success.

I didn't know they arrive to prices so low, then by all means Sony should implement Android on PSV and make an Android marketplace coexist with the PSN one.
