Forums - Microsoft - Windows 8 Price set to destroy Apple and IOS.

Are we sure Win 8 can actually compete on the same market segment of Apple products? I see it more attacking Android before Android trespass its current boundaries and attack Windows on the PC market. Android could have the potential to actually become the nightmare MS previously incorrectly identified with the PlayStation.

I agree here. Microsoft have been fighting a battle for awhile against open source and the rise of Linux. It's generally why they do big deals with the PC manufacturers to get a Microsoft OS on the system at build time. If it weren't for Microsoft's massive library of games thanks to DirectX, Linux systems may have acquired a lot more of the marketshare.

Fast forward to Android's release. If I were Microsoft, I'd have done all it took to release a similar Windows phone on a close date to Android, and boast things like tight Windows connectivity. Android could be the break that open-source has been looking for.

It isn't expensive, since the RT version can do alot at 300$. I am personally not interested and may get the 600$ version sometime next year. It's a compelling product imho.

Considering Android is Killing MS and Apple in the mobile space, I don't see Win8 changing that much. Google already has Chrome books out and a ton of very good tablets. MS has a huge mountain in front of it at this point with Apple and Android throwing boulders at them as they try to climb up. Add to this the Win8 platform is clunky and ugly compared to Android and IOS users love their dated system.
