So will the screen flash red before it dies? Or will it just catch fire?

I still think I'd prefer an ultrabook, if not an utrabook then something like the Acer tablet that comes with the detachable [real] keyboard (i.e. you don't have to buy the keyboard as a separate accessory). While I can see the appeal of the Surface's flat plastic cover keyboard to some (lots) of people I'm rather old fashioned and I like proper keys.
I can see a tablet in my future at some stage, but it's going to be at the lower end of the market because it's not going to have a lot of demands placed on it. Android seems to service the lower end of the tablet market better than anyone else at this point.

that's not going to destroy them. I think apple has that market cornered.
Their will be alot of Windows and Google Tablets...
Apple will pretty much lose their share to Google and Microsoft since they only make Ipads, similiar to what is happening with Android wich is killing IoS it will happen on Tablets aswell but this time with Windows dominating.
why is the tittle so misleading? i thought this was about OS price and is about tablets... you should change the tittle...

I suppose so. But Windows 8 has always been about taking on Apple in hardware.

Talking about MS horrible history of making hardware.
Edit, to appease mods.

Enlighten me... Leaving the early 360 issue aside... |
The Keyboards and mouse, I've owned two sets, both stopped working. after getting frustrated with it, i bought a logitech set that still works more than 5 years later. The 360 is the worst case example of any hardware manufacture, they brick a million zunes after a firmware update. Their xbox racing wheel has been know to catch fire or smoke till death. And it's not an early 360 issue, it still happens but it isn't wide as wide spread, the second day after a the slim model launched i walked in to a game store two people returning their slim because of some sort of hardware failure.

this line of thought, that you mentioned, its a personal view... its not a absolute true...

If it caught fire, MS would be accused of copying Sony:
