3DS is still the strongest, but DS has been almost killed far too early, DS alone used to sell better than 3DS+DS combined: http://www.vgchartz.com/weekly/40405/Global/

PSV in bad shape, but sensibly Sony won't take conclusions in a dead period when its competitor is overkilling anything else with a very important HW launch and many big SW one

Haven't had this degree of "damage control" feeling from someone's post for a while.

You don't even need to compare the DS to the PSV. That just makes it look worse, but it looks abysmal just as well on it's own.

Damage control? The two statements are totally unrelated, I even made them separated paragraphs.
Read them better, I just compared DS with itself combined with 3DS and nothing else: it's quite evident that a stronger DS could still fill a void that neither PSP nor PSV are filling, whatever their strength or weakness, they just can't cater for Nintendo potential audience, because that audience strongly wants some Ninty exclusives.
I mentioned PSV separately just stating that although it's in a bad shape, any decision rushed now, with 3DS at its best both on the HW and SW front, wouldn't be sensible, as a correct strategy will have to take in account 3DS momentum, not just the strongest boosts.
But nowhere I compared them. Why so insecure?

Very well written but your first post didn't imply this to me. Not insecure at all, it's just you said Sony won't take conclusions during a busy period for the DS, which I would say is drawing a comparison and makes it sound like Sony doesn't need to take action - or possibly won't when the DS starts loosing momentum. You're right though, doing a price cut now would be a very bad idea. That's the case for any console imo at this time of year. May-Aug worst possible time to cut a price and always has been. Late Sep-Oct would be a very good time, and if things haven't improved all but inevitable. Guess we all know that though so I'll shurrup.

@ bolded: Sorry then, I was probably too concise!    And yes, I actually meant what you understood this time and I agree also about what you wrote after. BTW, I'd add that even if they aren't already drawing conclusions, they're surely worried and carefully studying the situation, I'd never think they're just sitting, watching and doing nothing. Also, denying a cut in a short time doesn't mean anything about whether a cut will happen or not, announcing a cut too early would kill far better sales, let's not even mention what it could do to current PSV ones. Finally, Sony denied a cut in 2012 and announced it wants to support sales with games and bundles before doing it, this must simply be a partial truth, the cut will surely happen, they only still have to decide the actual date, and 2013 is just their most optimistic wish / wet dream, but most probably they too consider September-October 2012 the best window and the most likely they'll end up choosing, given the situation.

That's an interesting 'boost' for the 360 there, and a terrible drop for the PSV. 35k, can't remember any console dropping to those figures in its life, let alone in its first year (note that the PSP and the DS are now dead).

Even supporters must be worried.

Cant speak for anyone else, but im not worried at all.

I'm more talking about devs, actually.

They seem to still be making games and bringing big games to it. So they cannot be too worried. Anyone know how digital sales are doing yet?

But it depends on how far down the dev cycle it is, you wouldn't can a project 90% of a way through just because of weak sales...you'd just port it if it were exclusive.

If you were sensible, anyway.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

P4arena did worse than i initially tought. I would like to think p4G will do far better.
decent 3ds numbers, KH did well. Now lets see how the xl and nsmb2 go.

Its a fighting spin off from a series thats not really popular in the west. Not too mention the PS360 are already silly with fighters. Maybe they push Persona 4 Golden and that would garner attention for Arean, im personally holding out till Golden so Arena holds more signifcance for me.

It seems XBOX 360 was adjusted nicely. It's averaging about 100k instead of 90k before. PS3 has been steady for months now and doesn't show signs of slowing down which is impressive.

As for 3DS, it shouldn't go below 200k for the remainder of the year since Obon in Japan and NSMB2 in Europe will keep 3DS high in those regions. Then, next week will be 3DS XL and NSMB2 in America which would push worldwide numbers to 300k for that week, and sustain 200k until the holiday season.

The rest is depressing... The positive effect of Dragon Quest 10 on Wii has diminished faster than expected. PS Vita is battling with the PSP for the title of "Most Abysmal". DS has been killed off too quickly by Nintendo, but its sales remain relatively high in America when compared to the other regions and even the 3DS itself.

Also, why so few posts in this thread??? The numbers were posted 2 days ago and only around fifty posts... I thought sales were supposed to be the bread and butter of VGC.

We've been a bit distracted by the "Vita is Doomed/No it's not" threads, GamesCon news, and anticipation for the 3DS XL and Mario. Besides, it's summe. You can only say "sales are low" for so many weeks in a row.

Yeah, the Vita has been getting a lot of attention lately that's for sure (most of it negative though).

This has been bugging me for awhile and I'm sure someone will have brought it up before, but why do so many new releases now only have place-holder images or pre-release covers?
